Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Department of Psychology

On December 9, 2017, the Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, solemnly celebrated its 20th anniversary (December 10, 1997 – December 10, 2017). Also on this day, the Faculty of Psychology (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and the Faculty of Psychology (Moscow State University, Russian Federation) officially signed a cooperation agreement.

 

Overview

The Faculty welcomed distinguished guests from both Vietnam and abroad: Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Hac (Former Minister of Education and Training), Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong (Vice President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Learning), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Phu (General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Psychology and Education), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Hung Tuan (Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Social Psychology), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Hao (Deputy Director of the Institute of Psychology), Prof. Yuri Zinchenco (Head of the Department of Psychology - Moscow State University, Russian Federation), Prof. Dr. Odette Lescarret (Honorary Professor of Hanoi National University).

On the university's side, attendees included Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Director of the Institute of Policy and Management, former Party Secretary, former Rector), Dr. Ngo Thi Kieu Oanh (Chairperson of the University's Trade Union, Head of the Organization and Personnel Department), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Khanh (former Head of the Psychology Department, first term 1997-2001). A large number of students and trainees from the Department, as well as representatives from units and organizations that have collaborated with the Department over the past 20 years, also attended the ceremony.

Over the past 20 years, the Department of Psychology has achieved many accomplishments, leaving its mark on the overall development of the University and the field of Psychology in Vietnam. As a young and dynamic department, the Department of Psychology is one of the leading units in the University in terms of international cooperation, scientific research, and the number of faculty members with high academic titles and degrees. Currently, the Department has 20 full-time staff members, including 2 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 15 Doctors, and 3 Masters. The Department's training programs are diverse: undergraduate programs including standard and high-quality programs; 3 master's programs focusing on research, application, and international collaboration; and a doctoral program. The Department's entrance exam scores are consistently among the highest in the University, demonstrating the attractiveness of the field of Psychology and the Department's prestige in society.

The Faculty has trained 21 cohorts of standard students, along with 3 cohorts of high-quality students. This includes 1400 bachelor's graduates, 225 master's graduates, and 10 doctoral graduates. Faculty members have led and participated in 75 research projects at various levels, 10 Nafosted-funded projects, 8 international projects, and collaborated with non-governmental organizations to conduct numerous independent assessments and intervention studies. The Faculty has published 19 monographs; published 40 to 50 articles annually in nationally and internationally indexed journals; and approved 29 textbooks and lecture notes, covering over 80% of the courses. Students conduct 15 to 20 research projects each year.

Psychology graduates achieve success in a wide range of professional fields such as psychology, education, healthcare, media, and business.

Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thi Khanh Ha, Head of the Psychology Department, stated:“In the coming period, the goal of the Department of Psychology is to improve the quality of training and scientific research, linking theoretical teaching with practical application, and cooperating closely with training institutions, research and practice facilities both domestically and internationally. We understand that these tasks can only succeed with the support and guidance of the Party Committee and the School's Board of Directors, the valuable assistance of teachers inside and outside the Department, and the unity, consensus, and high determination of all staff and students in the Department.”

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector of the University, delivered a speech:“As a science that studies the mental life of human beings, psychology always seeks to apply scientific theories and methods to solve individual and social psychological problems, while helping people achieve a more peaceful and happier life. Twenty years is not a long time for a scientific discipline or a training unit, but it is enough for the Faculty of Psychology to gradually rise and affirm its capabilities and position, achieving very proud accomplishments. The University believes that, in the coming journey, with a spirit of unity and high determination, the faculty and students of the Faculty of Psychology will successfully complete the training and scientific research tasks assigned by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University, and the expectations of society.”The Party Secretary of the University emphasized that the Faculty needs to continue focusing its resources on developing major research topics and projects, as well as domestic and international cooperation programs, in order to socialize, realize, and disseminate the values ​​that contribute to the industry and society.

The Party Secretary of the University emphasized that the Faculty needs to continue focusing its resources on developing major research topics and projects, as well as domestic and international cooperation programs, in order to socialize, realize, and disseminate the values ​​that contribute to the industry and society.

Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Hung Tuan (Vice President of the Vietnam Social Psychology Association) stated:The Psychology Department branch of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the most active and effective branches, contributing to the overall development of the Association. The Association hopes to strengthen its effective and practical cooperation with the Psychology Department in the future.”

On this occasion, the faculty and individual teachers of the Department received numerous commendations from the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Vietnam Social Psychology Association.

The French-language training program is a prominent highlight and a distinguishing feature of the Psychology Department's training activities. From its inception, the French-language Bachelor of Clinical Psychology program and the French-language Master's program in "Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology" have received enthusiastic support and assistance from the leadership and faculty of the University of Toulouse II (Republic of France). At the ceremony, Professor Odette Lescarret (Honorary Doctor of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi) awarded diplomas to graduates of the French-language Master's program for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Over the past 20 years, the Department of Psychology has made significant progress in international cooperation. The Department has established and maintained collaborations in training and scientific research with universities and research institutes in France, Poland, Norway, the Russian Federation, Brazil, Australia, and China. On this occasion, the Department signed a cooperation agreement with the Department of Psychology, Moscow State University (Russian Federation).

The Department of Psychology also expresses its gratitude to the generations of faculty members who have contributed to laying the foundation, and to the individuals and organizations that have closely collaborated with the Department throughout its 20 years of development, helping it to build a strong position, foster dynamism and creativity, and reach ever further.
