Welcoming the Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to Vietnam.

Wednesday - December 6, 2017 00:22
On December 5, 2017, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Cooperation and Development Office, and the Scientific Research Management Office, met and worked with Mr. Kim Myong Gil, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh gave a brief overview of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasizing its goal of internationalization and promoting relations with foreign partners. The university has signed cooperation agreements with nearly 300 different partners worldwide. However, relations with partners in North Korea remain underdeveloped. Therefore, the Rector hoped that the Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Vietnam would connect the university with universities in North Korea, especially in promoting the Korean Studies program at the university and eventually establishing a Vietnamese Studies program in North Korea.

In response, Ambassador Kim Myong Gil emphasized that the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and North Korea is a traditional one, built and nurtured long ago by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung. The relationship between the two sides has great potential for development, including in the fields of cultural and educational exchange. He pledged that the Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea would create the best conditions to promote cooperation between universities on the North Korean side and the University.

Following this, in a spirit of friendship and openness, Professor Pham Quang Minh and Ambassador Kim Myong Gil directly exchanged views on several issues such as the North Korean education system, the political and security situation on the Korean Peninsula, inter-Korean relations, and bilateral relations between Vietnam and North Korea. Representatives from both sides also agreed to maintain more frequent interaction through activities such as organizing seminars and thematic discussions on bilateral relations. The Cooperation and Development Office will serve as the university's liaison.
