On July 4, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh met and worked with Dr. Jurgen Haacke (Director of the Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre, London School of Economics, University College London).

During the meeting, Dr. Jurgen Haacke introduced the mission of the Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre. Established under the patronage of Professor Saw Swee Hock, the Centre is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to promoting academic and policy research within the political and social context of Southeast Asia. The Centre brings together rich research from Southeast Asian experts at the London School of Economics, as well as scholars worldwide; through which it advises governments, businesses, and civil society on issues and challenges relevant to the region. In Southeast Asia, the Centre aims to build a network of scholars through programs, events, and interdisciplinary workshops with regional partners. Therefore, during this visit, Dr. Jurgen Haacke wished to meet and exchange ideas with scholars and researchers at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on Southeast Asian issues in general and Vietnam in particular.

In response, Professor Pham Quang Minh expressed his pleasure in welcoming and his readiness to share his insights and perspectives with Dr. Jurgen Haacke. The Rector stated that these activities are in line with the university's internationalization orientation and its efforts to strengthen international cooperation.

In a frank and open spirit, Professor Pham Quang Minh and Dr. Jurgen Haacke exchanged views on several issues concerning Vietnam's foreign policy towards the UK in relation to other countries and territories; Vietnam's perspective on the UK's role in the Southeast Asian regional order; the possibility of establishing a comprehensive partnership and dialogue between the UK and ASEAN; Vietnam's policies and views on alliances and military partnerships; and the relationship between China and Vietnam in particular, and ASEAN in general.

Founded in 1895, the London School of Economics (LSE) focuses on economics, finance, law, politics, and international relations. Located in central London, LSE boasts modern facilities, including the British Library of Political Science, the UK's primary library for social sciences. LSE comprises 27 faculties and institutes, offering 30 undergraduate science programs, 5 public administration programs, 4 business administration programs, 140 master's programs, and 35 doctoral programs.
