Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le passed away

At 1:00 p.m. today (June 23, 2018), Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le - one of the four great figures "Lam - Le - Tan - Vuong" of contemporary Vietnamese history, breathed his last at Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi, leaving behind endless sorrow for his family, colleagues, friends and generations of students.

Professor Phan Huy Le was born in 1934 in Ha Tinh. He graduated from Hanoi Pedagogical University in 1956, majoring in Ancient and Medieval Vietnamese History. He was recognized as Professor in 1980. He was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher in 1988 and the title of People's Teacher in 1994.

Professor Phan Huy Le was honored to receive the Kukuoka International Asian Cultural Award, Japan in 1996; the French Government's Academic Palm Medal in 2002; and the title of Foreign Correspondent of the Academy of Inscriptions and Fine Arts of the French Academy in 2011.

He worked at Hanoi University of Science, then the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU from 1956 to 2004. His work units were the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Oriental Studies. He held the following managerial positions: Head of the Department of Vietnamese Ancient and Medieval History, Faculty of History; Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies (1993-2000). He was also the President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association from 1988 to present.

The main research directions of Professor Phan Huy Le are: History of resistance against foreign invaders, History and cultural history of Vietnam, History of Vietnamese economy and society.

During his research career, Professor Phan Huy Le was awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology in 2000 for his work.Finding the origin (2 episodes); Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology in 2016 for the projectVietnamese History and Culture - Partial Approach.
