This conference is hosted by the Center for Asian Studies - Seoul National University, titled "Korea and Vietnam: Modern and Contemporary Ages".
The main content of the conference revolved around issues of history, politics, economics, culture, and society of Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea since World War II, in relation to and comparison between the countries. The conference was divided into 15 sub-committees, focusing on discussing the following main contents: The process of decolonization, modernization, and urbanization in Vietnam and South Korea; The Cold War and its impacts on Vietnam and South Korea; Economic, political, and social changes in South Korea and Vietnam in the second half of the 20th century to the present; Relations between Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea since 1945; Exchange and cooperation activities between South Korea and Vietnam in the fields of economics, culture, education, marriage, film, music, etc.

The conference attracted the participation of more than 50 delegates from the world's leading academic centers such as the United States, Canada, England, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, India, Singapore, etc. From Vietnam, in addition to scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU, there were also scientists from Hanoi National University of Education, Institute of History - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Hanoi Museum of Fine Arts, Hue University of Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU-HCM, Saigon University and many Vietnamese students, graduate students and researchers studying and working in Korea.
The first workshop “Vietnam and Korea as "Longue Durée" Subject of Comparison” was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU in March 2017. As planned, the third workshop “Vietnam - Korea Comparison” will be held in Paris, France in the summer of 2019. The next topic of the workshop is the issue of national unification, the process of economic, social, cultural and educational transformation in Vietnam after unification and experiences for the Korean peninsula. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU continues to be the co-organizer of this scientific event.
