This conference, hosted by the Center for Asian Studies at Seoul National University, is titled "Korea and Vietnam in the Modern and Contemporary Ages."
The main content of the conference revolved around issues concerning the history, politics, economics, culture, and society of Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea from the end of World War II to the present, placed within the context of relationships and comparisons between the countries. The conference was divided into 15 subcommittees, focusing on the following main topics: the process of decolonization, modernization, and urbanization in Vietnam and South Korea; the Cold War and its impact on Vietnam and South Korea; economic, political, and social changes in South Korea and Vietnam from the second half of the 20th century to the present; relations between Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea since 1945; and exchange and cooperation activities between South Korea and Vietnam in the fields of economics, culture, education, marriage, film, music, etc.

The workshop attracted over 50 delegates from leading academic centers around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, India, and Singapore. From Vietnam, in addition to scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, there were also scientists from Hanoi Pedagogical University, the Institute of History - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Hanoi Fine Arts Museum, Hue University of Science, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon University, and many Vietnamese students, graduate students, and researchers studying and working in South Korea.
The first "Vietnam and Korea as 'Longue Durée' Subject of Comparison" conference was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi in March 2017. According to the plan, the third "Vietnam and Korea as 'Longue Durée'" conference will be held in Paris, France in the summer of 2019. The next topic of the conference will be the issue of national reunification, the process of economic, social, cultural, and educational transformation in Vietnam after reunification, and lessons for the Korean Peninsula. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi will continue to be a co-organizer of this scientific event.
