Workshop "Strengthening the Education of Revolutionary Ideals in Students"

Thursday - April 26, 2018 11:01 AM
On the afternoon of April 23, 2018, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Hanoi Youth Union, organized a workshop on "Strengthening the Education of Revolutionary Ideals in Students". Attending the workshop were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), and Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Building on the achievements of over 30 years of national renewal, during the past five-year term, the revolutionary ideal education work of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has continued to develop, clearly demonstrating its role and responsibility towards its members and young people, building a force of Vietnamese youth who are always firm in their ideology and political stance; possessing sound morals and lifestyles; having a high level of education and scientific and technological knowledge; and having the will and spirit to work diligently, creatively, and overcome difficulties.

However, there is still a phenomenon where a segment of young people experience a decline in faith, a lack of awareness of law compliance, a pragmatic lifestyle, a lack of life ideals, and a detachment from the nation's fine cultural traditions. Therefore, in recent years, fulfilling its function as a "socialist school for youth," with innovations in educational content and methods, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has achieved some noteworthy results.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim delivered a speech at the conference.

Professor Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University) emphasized the qualities that Vietnamese youth union members need to possess: Learning, proactiveness, and creativity; the spirit of self-reliance, career building, and entrepreneurship; responsibility towards oneself, society, and the work of the Youth Union. Furthermore, young people need to enhance the spirit of "Actions speak louder than words" and "Pioneering and exemplary conduct in Youth Union work," demonstrating high responsibility towards the community so that: "One good deed every day, one beautiful act every week."

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) emphasized the necessity of educating revolutionary ideals for youth union members. Ho Chi Minh's views on educating revolutionary ideals for youth union members include: educating love for the Fatherland; love for the people; love for socialism; love for labor; love for science; and discipline. Placed in the current context, the age of information technology with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the explosion of the internet, the struggle on the ideological front remains a persistent and fierce battle. Therefore, how can we educate "youth to have a 'warm heart and a cool head,' enthusiastic and passionate but also very alert, wary of the subversive and divisive schemes of hostile forces, and the allure of trivial temptations?" – Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang shared.

Representatives from various Youth Union branches, sub-branches, and clubs also shared lessons, experiences, and difficulties encountered in Youth Union activities. The representative from the Philosophy Faculty's Youth Union branch suggested that Youth Union organizations need to strengthen their propaganda efforts and provide soft skills training for young members to help them understand the importance of developing life skills. This would enable young people to participate in Youth Union collective activities proactively and effectively in all situations.

Representatives from the media club put forward several suggestions: the Youth Union branches need to be more proactive and thorough in identifying and nurturing outstanding members and students, especially in Party development work. And from an individual perspective, students and young people also need to proactively study, train, cherish the past, and preserve and promote the positive values of the future generation.

Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union Nguyen Ngoc Luong delivered a speech at the workshop.

Concluding the workshop, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Nguyen Ngoc Luong, summarized the contributions and reaffirmed the important role of the Youth Union in educating revolutionary ideals for its members and young people. He also emphasized that the Youth Union needs to guide its members and young people towards the revolutionary ideal of steadfastly pursuing the goal of national independence linked with socialism, striving to build a prosperous, strong, democratic, just, and civilized Vietnam, faithfully and excellently continuing the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party; and being diligent, creative in labor, and courageous in fighting to defend the Fatherland.
