Opening of the 2017-2018 school year

The opening ceremony of the 2017-2018 school year of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities took place on the morning of September 16, 2017 on campus.

The opening ceremony welcomed distinguished guests: Mr. Ngo Van Quy - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee; Director of VNU Nguyen Kim Son; Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quan - Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Vice Director of VNU.

The opening ceremony was attended by veteran teachers and scientists. Students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities show off their pure beauty at the opening ceremony. This year, the University has 1,677 new students of the QH-2017-X course. The 3 top students of the 2017 entrance exam have a score of 28.75, they are: Tran Tien Anh, Le Thi Dung, Phung Thi Thu Ha(Faculty of Oriental Studies).

The performances of the students welcomed the distinguished guests and the new students of K62 of the School.

The students presented unique and lively performances. Cultural activities are a strong point in the student movement of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Principal of the School delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. The speech reviewed the School's achievements in the past school year and mentioned the tasks that the teachers and students of the School will carry out together in the new school year. The speech also emphasized the opportunities of Social Sciences and Humanities in the new context: "Many people think that basic sciences, especially social sciences, will face many difficulties and challenges. However, I do not think so. I think that this is the time when Vietnamese social sciences and humanities have the opportunity to demonstrate and prove their position and role. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh beat the traditional drum to start a new school year with new expectations. He shared: "The University of Social Sciences and Humanities that you have chosen is the place to train, research, and disseminate the core values ​​of the nation, multiplying the spiritual strength that no weapon can defeat. That is patriotism, solidarity, compassion, tolerance, helping us overcome all difficulties and challenges. What countries today lack is not "hard" power but "soft" power, which are spiritual and cultural values."

VNU President Nguyen Kim Son spoke to students with the topic: Studying and researching with the spirit of social responsibility and humanistic ideals in the new industrial age. He said that to achieve success, young people must have ambition: "To achieve great success, you need to have good learning methods, but the most important thing is to have great ambition and vision. Having great ambition is the beginning of a great career. With "great ambition", great difficulties and obstacles will become small under our feet. With great ambition, among the "thousand volumes of scriptures", we will find what we need. With great ambition, we will find a teacher to enlighten us. With great ambition, the temptations and bad habits of society will stay away from us. The path to success begins with determination. The Director of VNU also mentioned the important tasks that teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities must focus on in the coming time: "In order for students to have the expected qualities and capacities, we need to innovate a lot. Teachers need to have a real role in guiding students to keep up with the times. To do so, teachers must be pioneers, master their expertise, integrate internationally, and have international dialogue on scientific aspects. The school needs to innovate to become a smart university. It is necessary to innovate university governance. It is necessary to build large enough social and humanistic databases to serve management, learning and research. It is necessary to create an environment of academic freedom, openness and transparency as a basis for the creation of new knowledge. The road to Hoa Lac is more open, we need to do everything to not miss the opportunity to turn the school into a green and beautiful university on a new land".

The school awarded certificates of merit to 70 students with excellent and good academic achievements; 59 class, union and association officials with excellent achievements; 51 students with difficult circumstances but still striving to study well in the courses QH-2014-X, QH-2015-X, QH-2016-X. The school also awarded 17 scholarships from the Dao Minh Quang Fund to 17 students who were valedictorians in the 2017 training programs.

Also at the opening ceremony, many organizations and individuals awarded sponsorships and scholarships to students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities such as: Vietnam Development and Investment Bank, AEON Vietnam Company, Overcome English Organization, Dao Minh Quang Fund (Germany)... On behalf of the University, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh received support from the above organizations and individuals.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quan - Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Vice President of VNU, Hanoi, interacted with students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities about Entrepreneurship and employment. He shared with young people about: what to study for; the importance of thinking, positive thinking in life; two-system thinking helps us overcome inertia; what is entrepreneurship and why we need entrepreneurship thinking; how to make a difference based on the values ​​of Social Sciences and Humanities.
