Dear girls and boys!
First of all, please allow me, on behalf of the school's leadership, to send to the distinguished guests, teachers and students, especially the first-year students (K62), the warmest welcome and the warmest congratulations on the occasion of the Opening Ceremony of the new school year 2017-2018!
At this moment, our thoughts and feelings are with our beloved Central region where our people are struggling with the damage caused by storm No. 10. Among the ladies, teachers and students sitting here, there must be many who have families and relatives in the storm's eye. Please allow me to share some of that difficulty.
The 2016-2017 school year has left special marks:
About trainingWe held a graduation ceremony for more than 1,000 bachelors, masters and doctors, including for the first time a doctorate in Science and Technology Management.
About science: The school's departments have 42 international publications, including 6 publications in ISI and SCOPUS journals with high impact factors.
About quality assurancePhilosophy is the third program after Linguistics and Oriental Studies to be accredited according to the criteria of the ASEAN University Network (AUN).
About student affairs: A one-stop shop model focusing on student service is being implemented.
Two English ClubsFor students and staff, Master Tea Club and Lunch Box have become a truly attractive and new playground.
Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le was honored to receive the HCM Prize for his work "Vietnamese History and Culture - Partial Approach".
Today, we are pleased to welcome and congratulate 1,677 new students of K62 on joining the common home of USSH. I think that the new students are extremely proud and moved to attend the Opening Ceremony of the new school year at one of the most prestigious schools in Vietnam. For K62 students, the new school year is opening with many advantages, but also many difficulties. In a globalized and flat world like today, when science and technology have reached a high level, creating enormous material values, countries are looking for spiritual values, traditional cultural values, identity, and spirit. USSH that you have chosen is the place to train, research, and spread the core values of the nation, multiplying the spiritual strength that no weapon can defeat. That is patriotism, solidarity, compassion, and tolerance, helping us overcome all difficulties and challenges. What countries today lack is not “hard” power but “soft” power, spiritual and cultural values. Believe that with a long tradition and a team of experienced professors, today’s generations of students will become excellent scientists, managers, and businessmen in the future, but first and foremost, good citizens, useful to their families, society, and community.
Dear teachers and students!
Recently, building research universities, rankings, autonomy, education quality... are "hot" issues that the whole society is interested in. Many people think that basic sciences, especially social sciences, will face many difficulties and challenges. However, I do not think so. I think that this is the time when Vietnamese social sciences and humanities have the opportunity to demonstrate and prove their position and role. It is social sciences, not natural sciences and technology, that have the advantage of development.
After more than 30 years of renovation, our beloved S-shaped land has become an attractive research subject for social scientists from many countries around the world. From a "Vietnam War", we have become one "Vietnam peace, innovation, integration".
About politics, we are proving that "history does not end", even though the Soviet Union collapsed and the socialist bloc was in crisis.
Economically,A socialist-oriented market economy model is taking effect and proving its superiority.
About social cultureis the revival of traditional values of a cohesive community, united in diversity.
On foreign affairsis a multilateral diplomatic policy, diversifying relations, wanting to be friends and reliable partners of all countries.
These are the topics that need to be trained, researched, analyzed, and explained scientifically and systematically, based on modern theories and interdisciplinary methods. I believe that you can do it. I also believe that students will be inspired to follow in your footsteps.
The Party, the government as well as Hanoi city hope to have more and more quality research from teachers on those topics.
And if you can do that, you will have contributed to the cause of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education, making an important contribution to the academic foundation of the region and the world.
If you do that, scientific journals with high impact factors (listed in ISI and SCOPUS) will be ready to publish your works.
If we can do that, Hanoi City will be ready to invest in your topics. Businesses will also be ready to sponsor your ideas. And your students will not have difficulty finding jobs after graduation.
Finally, on the occasion of the new school year, please allow me to express my most sincere thanks to domestic and foreign partners, visiting professors, leaders of the City, and Hanoi National University for their support, assistance, and facilitation for the School to complete its tasks.
I wish all delegates, ladies, teachers and students, especially students of class 62: Health - Happiness - Success.
