
With the full attendance of faculty and new students, the opening ceremony took place in a joyful, relaxed, friendly, yet solemn atmosphere. Beginning the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam (Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language) delivered a welcoming speech and briefly introduced the history of VSL. Following this, he, along with the faculty members, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam and Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh, presented awards to Etienn Mihler (a K62 student who won second prize in the VNU-level student research competition); the students with the highest entrance exam scores; and the K63 students who demonstrated remarkable perseverance and achievement. In addition, the Faculty prepared small, lovely gifts and provided a free lunch for all 99 new students.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, under the direction of Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh (Deputy Head of the Faculty in charge of the Bachelor of Vietnamese Studies program), the Faculty organized an Orientation session to help new students quickly determine the right direction for their four years of study and research at the Faculty. With this goal in mind, the speakers at the Orientation session presented issues of interest to all students.

First, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh gave an overview of the training program and academic matters. Following that, Dr. Dang Hoang Giang shared four basic strategies that students need to implement to best prepare for graduation. This topic was further elaborated through the sharing of Etienn Mihler (K62) and Nguyen Thi Thom (K59) on how to learn English and conduct effective scientific research.

Next, Ms. Vu Thi Xuyen and Ms. Vu Lan Huong introduced the diverse scholarship programs offered by the Faculty and the University, as well as their experience in connecting Vietnamese and international students.
