Welcoming representatives from the KAS Foundation (Federal Republic of Germany)

Monday - October 8, 2018 17:34
On October 5, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) met and worked with Mr. Peter Girke (Head Representative of the KAS Foundation in Vietnam) and Mr. David Brahler (Southeast Asia Office of the KAS Foundation).

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) affirmed that the KAS Institute is one of the long-standing and reliable partners of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Rector expressed his hope to continue receiving assistance from the Institute in the future in areas such as scholar exchange, organizing international conferences, and international publications. In the cooperation to organize conferences, some priority topics include a comparison of the ASEAN-EU security environment, a comparison of ASEAN-EU cultures, educational reform, Vietnamese society and culture, and experiences from other countries…

Mr. Peter Girke highly appreciated the above proposals and stated that the KAS Institute is always interested in investing in education and is ready to assist and facilitate the School in the future. For example, recently on September 18, 2018, KAS and the School jointly organized a seminar on "Innovating the compilation of History textbooks for secondary schools in Vietnam and some international experiences." This will be a driving force to promote bilateral relations in particular, and German-Vietnamese relations in general. The main objective of KAS is to support democracy, build a rule of law state, and expand the social market economy. KAS projects aim to contribute to further strengthening the long-term political stability as well as the economic and social development of Vietnam.

Following this, Professor Pham Quang Minh discussed and answered some of Mr. David Brahler's questions about Vietnamese higher education, such as the trend of university autonomy; challenges in student recruitment for social sciences and humanities in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular; the combination and competition between scientific disciplines and new applied fields; and innovation in teaching methods for traditional subjects such as History and Literature.
