Happy 90th birthday to Professor Dinh Xuan Lam, People's Teacher.

This morning, May 4th, 2015, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), led a delegation of faculty and staff from the University to visit and congratulate Professor Dinh Xuan Lam on his 90th birthday.

Attending the celebration of Professor Dinh Xuan Lam's birthday were friends, colleagues, and generations of students who had studied and worked with him over the years, including Professor Phan Huy Le (Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association), Professor Vu Duong Ninh (Chairman of the University's Retired Teachers Association), Associate Professor Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department), along with staff and lecturers from the History Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Professor Vu Duong Ninh, representing the School's Alumni, respectfully presents this embroidered gift to Professor Dinh Xuan Lam on his 90th birthday.

This is an act of gratitude from successive generations, aiming to acknowledge the professor's contributions to the revolutionary historiography of Vietnam in general, and to the former University of Hanoi (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), the Faculty of History, and the Department of Modern and Contemporary History in particular.

Professor Dinh Xuan Lam was born on February 4, 1925, in Son Tan commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province, into a patriotic family of mandarins. He was born in a land of "spiritual and talented people," where the legendary physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong practiced medicine and saved lives, and where the top-ranking scholar Phan Dinh Phung, along with peasant leader Cao Thang, established a Can Vuong base to persistently resist French colonialism for ten years.

Over more than half a century of tireless research, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam has left a vast scientific legacy, with approximately 400 scientific works (including books, textbooks, articles, scientific reports, etc.). Representative books associated with his name include: the book series...Modern history of Vietnam(4 episodes)General history of Vietnam(Volume 2), bookHistory of Vietnamof which the author is the chief editor (volume 3)...

In the field of teaching, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam has trained thousands of students and successfully supervised dozens of doctoral candidates. The generations he mentored have always shown him affection, respect, and reverence, considering him one of the "four pillars" of the History Department, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Professor Lam belongs to the generation that laid the foundation and is a leading expert in Marxist historiography in Vietnam.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh, representing the University, expressed his gratitude to Professor Dinh Xuan Lam for his contributions to the University, the Faculty, and the Department over the years. On this occasion, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh also extended his best wishes to Professor Dinh Xuan Lam, wishing him continued good health, happiness, and longevity.

On this occasion, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh, representing the University and the Faculty of History, also presented Professor Khanh with a book."The Anti-Colonialist Movement in Vietnam"This book is a scientific publication that not only encapsulates the outstanding research of Professor Dinh Xuan Lam but also provides insights and guidance for future research, especially by young people today, on a complex, turbulent, yet pivotal and particularly important period in Vietnamese history. The book was published by the University in collaboration with the Education Publishing House.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh, Party Secretary and Rector of the University, is introducing the book he is presenting to Professor Dinh Xuan Lam.

These pages partly reflect the dedication of Professor Do Quang Hung's students in particular, and the Department of Modern and Contemporary History, Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general—the intellectual elite whom he has diligently taught, nurtured, and cultivated for many years. At the same time, it also expresses his deep respect and gratitude, shared Professor Do Quang Hung.

On behalf of the faculty and students, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department) also extended his best wishes for the professor's health, hoping for a long life so that he can continue to contribute to training and scientific research, and continue to be a role model and guide for the younger generations of the History Department.
