Meeting and working with the Mayor of Wellington (New Zealand)

On February 5, 2015, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) met and worked with Ms. Calia Wade-Brown (Mayor of Wellington, New Zealand) and Professor Roberto Rabel – Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington. Also attending the meeting were Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Vice-Rector), representatives from the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Information and Library Science, and the Office of External Relations and International Training Cooperation.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh expressed his delight in welcoming Ms. Calia Wade-Brown and Professor Roberto Rabel to the University. The Rector stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a leading institution for social sciences and humanities education in Vietnam. Many prominent Vietnamese leaders and politicians are alumni of the University. The University aims to continuously improve the quality of its training, research, and internationalization of its programs. Therefore, the University hopes to receive support and assistance from foreign partners such as Victoria University of Wellington. Furthermore, the Rector noted that the two sides have collaborated extensively in student and faculty exchanges. Many faculty members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have had the opportunity to study at Victoria University of Wellington.

Ms. Calia Wade-Brown expressed her delight at the warm welcome at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. She noted that this event also contributes to the relationship between Vietnam and New Zealand as the two countries are about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. As one of New Zealand's universities, Victoria University of Wellington is also eager to learn from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. On the occasion of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, Ms. Calia Wade-Brown extended her best wishes to the Rector and all staff and employees of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

During the meeting, the two sides also renewed the training cooperation agreement signed in 2011. Accordingly, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Victoria University of Wellington will continueA collaborative training program based on the 2+2 model.

Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) is one of New Zealand's oldest and most prestigious universities, established in 1897. Currently, VUW educates over 20,000 students across various programs including Business and Management, Law, Architecture and Design, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities.
