The scientific conference with the theme "Language and Cultural Issues" organized by the Faculty of Linguistics in collaboration with the Hanoi Linguistics Association took place on April 14, 2012 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.The workshop was attended by scientists from many domestic and foreign research and training institutions: Institute of Linguistics, Institute of Lexicography and Encyclopedia, Institute of Han Nom Studies, Hanoi Linguistics Association, lecturers, students, trainees, and PhD students of the Faculty of Linguistics, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU...
The workshop focused on discussing two main issues: 1. Evaluation and recognition of the research achievements on language and culture of Professor Nguyen Tai Can, with the article by Professor Le Quang Thiem on "Some general linguistic theories of Vietnamese related to the concept of Language"; Professor Nguyen Thien Giap discussed "Differences in the Vietnamese grammar system of Professor Nguyen Tai Can"; the presentation by Professor Dinh Van Duc "On a valuable collection of lectures by Professor Nguyen Tai Can"; "Professor Nguyen Tai Can's contributions to the field of research on the history of national literature" by Associate Professor Tran Ngoc Vuong... 2. Research on issues related to language and culture in general, Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture in particular, with the presentation "Some thoughts on the research on language and culture (From the perspective of cognitive linguistics and language and culture)" by Professor Ly Toan Thang; “The relationship between language and culture: viewed from the perspective of language as cultural evidence” by Professor Tran Tri Doi; “The languages of the Vietic branch in the Middle East and the problem of Vietnamese history” by Professor Nguyen Van Loi; “Vietnamese empty words of the 17th century in three texts written in the national language” by Associate Professor Vu Duc Nghieu; “The way of reading Sino-Vietnamese and the fictional nature in Thiet Van – viewed from the perspective of the Trong Nuu phenomenon” by Professor Shimizu Masaaki (Oasaka University – Japan); Research on Cham and Trai in Vietnamese through “Cu tran Lac dao phu” by Tran Nhan Tong by researcher Nguyen Hung Vi and Dr. Tran Trong Duong…
This scientific conference has a special meaning in commemorating Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can (May 2, 1926 - February 25, 2011). The conference "Issues of Language and Culture" is also a continuation of scientific conferences organized by the Faculty of Linguistics or in coordination with domestic and foreign agencies: the 6th International Scientific Conference on Pan-Asian Linguistics (in coordination with the Institute of Linguistics, 2004); the national scientific conference on Linguistics Issues: Hanoi Language and Ho Chi Minh Language (in coordination with the Hanoi Linguistics Association, 2007); the international scientific conference on Research and Teaching of Vietnamese and Chinese Language and Culture (in cooperation with Guangxi University of Nationalities, 2007, 2009, 2011); the 2010 National Linguistics Conference (in coordination with the Vietnam Linguistics Association, 2010); International scientific conference Linguistics training and research in Vietnam: Theoretical and practical issues (2011).
