The workshop focused on two main issues: 1. Evaluating and acknowledging the research achievements on language and culture of Professor Nguyen Tai Can, with Professor Le Quang Thiem's article on "Some general linguistic implications of Vietnamese language related to the concept of language"; Professor Nguyen Thien Giap's discussion on "Differences in the Vietnamese grammar system of Professor Nguyen Tai Can"; Professor Dinh Van Duc's presentation on "A valuable collection of lectures by Professor Nguyen Tai Can"; Associate Professor Tran Ngoc Vuong's presentation on "Professor Nguyen Tai Can's contributions to the field of national literary history research"... 2. Researching issues related to language and culture in general, and the Vietnamese language and culture in particular, with Professor Ly Toan Thang's presentation on "Some thoughts on language and culture research (From the perspective of cognitive linguistics and language and culture)"; “The Relationship Between Language and Culture: Viewed from the Perspective of Language as Cultural Evidence” by Professor Tran Tri Doi; “Vietic Sub-Languages in Central Indochina and the Problem of Vietnamese History” by Professor Nguyen Van Loi; “Vietnamese Function Words in the 17th Century in Three Texts Written in the National Script” by Associate Professor Vu Duc Nghieu; “The Sino-Vietnamese Reading and Fictional Nature in Thiet Van – Viewed from the Perspective of the Trong Nuu Phenomenon” by Professor Shimizu Masaaki (Oasaka University – Japan); A Study on Cham and Trai in Vietnamese through Tran Nhan Tong's “Cu Tran Lac Dao Phu” by researcher Nguyen Hung Vi and Dr. Tran Trong Duong…
This scientific conference holds special significance in commemorating Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can (May 2, 1926 – February 25, 2011). The conference, "Issues in Language and Culture," is also a continuation of scientific conferences organized by the Faculty of Linguistics or in collaboration with domestic and international organizations: the 6th International Conference on Inter-Asian Linguistics (in collaboration with the Institute of Linguistics, 2004); the National Conference on Linguistics Issues: Hanoi Language and Ho Chi Minh Language (in collaboration with the Hanoi Linguistics Association, 2007); the International Conference on Research and Teaching of Vietnamese and Chinese Language and Culture (in collaboration with Guangxi Nationalities University, 2007, 2009, 2011); and the 2010 National Linguistics Conference (in collaboration with the Vietnam Linguistics Association, 2010).
