An emotional football party took place at the E campus of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the afternoon of January 27th, attracting the participation of hundreds of faculty and students from the university.

To cheer on the Vietnam U23 team in the 2018 AFC Cup final against the Uzbekistan U23 team, a large LED screen was installed in building E for staff and students to watch the match live.

From very early on, Professor Pham Quang Minh was present to interact with faculty and students before the match began. Hundreds of students gathered at the stage to listen to the Rector's speech and cheer on the U23 Vietnam players. The entire campus of the Faculty of Humanities was dyed red with flags, flowers, and banners cheering on the heroes of the U23 Vietnam team.

Professor Pham Quang Minh - the Rector of the University, along with the students, attentively watched the historic final match.

At exactly 3 PM, the campus was filled with over 1000 students. All were eager for the most anticipated final match in Vietnamese football history. Thanh Thủy, a student from the K60 Journalism and Communication program, said: “I’ve never seen students at this school so closely connected. Everyone is united by their hearts and love for the players. I’m truly excited.”

The Vietnamese team's match was intense for 120 minutes, and during that time, the school's supporters experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. In the 8th minute of the match, Uzbekistan took the lead with a goal scored by the player wearing jersey number 10.ButRustamjon Ashurmatov's initial joy seemed to subside, but everyone chanted, "Go Vietnam!" Shortly after, a stunning free-kick goal by Quang Hai in the 41st minute sealed the victory. This caused the entire campus to erupt in cheers. All the faculty and students stood up, shouting excitedly and filled with hope that the continental championship trophy would belong to the Vietnamese team for the first time.

Faculty and students arrived very early to settle into their positions before the final match began to be broadcast.

In the second half, the emotions of the fans fluctuated with the course of the match. Despite the game dragging on and the weather turning colder as the fog thickened, all the students stayed to watch until the very last minute. It was thought that the faculty and students of the Faculty of Humanities, and the people of the country in general, would witness an emotional penalty shootout to decide the winner, but unfortunately, our players lost the championship trophy in the final minutes of the second extra time period. The entire campus fell silent, with only cries and sighs of disappointment. The opponent's goal came as a complete surprise.

“Dear students, you have just witnessed a historic and emotional match of the Vietnam U23 team. Regardless of the outcome, I want to say that we did not lose, and our players still deserve to be honored. Therefore, please give them a round of applause for what they have achieved,” said Mr. Nguyen Chi Trung (Specialist in the Political and Student Affairs Department), encouraging his students. On the stage, the final footage of Vietnamese fans in Changzhou (China) with their tears gradually faded away.

Everyone's eyes were glued to the screen, holding their breath as they watched the match.

However, to describe the performance of the Vietnam U23 team in this final match, we still have to use two words: "outstanding." The players pushed themselves for so long to create a miracle in Changzhou, proving to the world that Vietnam, though small, has an indomitable will. And more than just a victory on the field, they have won in the hearts of the Vietnamese people. The beautiful images of Van Thanh clearing the snow for his teammate Quang Hai to take a free kick and score, and defender Duy Manh planting the Vietnamese flag in the snow of Changzhou… will forever be unforgettable memories in the hearts of Vietnamese football fans.

"Who will ever mention Changzhou again?"

That day, the snow fell, turning my hair white.

A dozen or so brave warriors charged against the wind.

"To be admired for generations to come!"

In the 41st minute, when Quang Hai scored, the entire hall erupted in cheers and excitement, celebrating the spectacular goal by the Vietnam U23 team.

The social value created by the Vietnam U23 team is also worth acknowledging. Never before have we seen people from all over the country so close together. Never before have humanities students cheered, shouted, laughed, cried, and experienced such unexpected ups and downs of emotion together. This bond stems from the values that our players created on their journey to the AFC Cup 2018 final.

Ultimately, no matter the outcome: "We win and become kings, we lose and are still heroes!"
