Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has 278 staff under the age of 40 out of a total of 527 staff, accounting for 52.75%. The number of staff under 40 with the title of Associate Professor is 11 people, accounting for 11.58% of the total number of Associate Professors in the whole school. The number of young PhD staff is 106, accounting for 83.46% of the total number of PhD staff in the whole school. The number of young staff proficient in English (graduated abroad or with international certificates, with a university degree in foreign languages) accounts for 56.86% of the total number of staff proficient in foreign languages in the whole school.
Sharing the above information, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh emphasized that the young staff of the School is an important and core force, expected to continue to build the name and scientific reputation of the School in both the present and the future. This year, the good news is that the whole school has 80 international publications, of which 22 articles are listed in the ISI and Scopus categories - the highest number ever. Among them, many young staff have actively contributed to the international publication achievements of the School in recent times such as: Thach Mai Hoang (Faculty of Anthropology), Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang (Faculty of Sociology), Pham Le Huy (Faculty of Oriental Studies), Nguyen Thu Hien (Faculty of Literature), Trinh Thi Linh (Faculty of Psychology)...
Most recently, the School has announced a policy of maximum support of 250 million for a book published at international publishing houses; lower support levels for publications in English at prestigious domestic publishing houses and other support for staff with international publications or attending international conferences abroad... In addition, the School annually organizes dozens of international conferences; opens academic English courses, training sessions and shares experiences in international publications; strives to build a network connecting young researchers inside and outside the school...
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh suggested that young cadres should proactively take full advantage of the above support conditions to soon bring their research capacity up to international standards because "it is a vital path and cannot be otherwise" in the context that the University is having a development strategy towards a research university, approaching regional and international standards.
In response to the opinion that international publication in the field of social sciences and humanities is difficult and sensitive, the Rector expressed his disagreement, and emphasized that international publication depends on the quality of research, new ideas in science, the ability to connect with international scientists in their specialized field and connect with world scientific journals... The Rector suggested that young cadres start by changing their perception of international publication in a positive direction, increasing their participation in international conferences at home and abroad, proactively "immersing" themselves in the flow of current scientific issues in the world, learning about the specific requirements of international scientific journals that they are interested in, building close relationships with senior scientists to learn from their experiences, participating in interdisciplinary research groups...
According to Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Principal of the University), the opportunity to successfully register for scientific research topics at all levels, especially from funds such as Nafosted... is increasingly open to young scientists. Young scientists have strengths in foreign languages, are updated with new scientific knowledge, have good connectivity with the region and the world, and have the desire to rise up... The important thing is that they should not be afraid or self-conscious but need to always move forward, persevere and have a strategy to successfully approach their goals. Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan also believes that senior scientists who have successfully conquered international scientific journals need to mentor and create opportunities for young staff to join their research groups, thereby helping them grow up...
At the seminar, scientists listened to Dr. Do Tien Dung's discussion on the policy mechanisms, criteria and conditions for registering topics of the Nafosted Fund; the priorities in the Fund's research orientation and the Fund's incentives for young scientists...
The young staff also discussed with the school's leaders many issues such as: how to have timely policies to encourage young staff in research work; what is more important in international publications: quantity or quality?...
