The third Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture Studies has been launched in China.
On July 10, 2018, the delegation held a working meeting with the Rector, Vice-Rector, and representatives of relevant departments of Guangxi University of Science and Technology. At this meeting, the leaders of the two universities officially launched the Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture Research. This is the third research and academic exchange center of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in China (after Guangxi Normal University and Beijing Foreign Studies University) and the fifth research center abroad (including Kaohsiung University and Donghua University, Taiwan).

During the meeting, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan introduced the history and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and emphasized the opportunities for cooperation and exchange of students and faculty, as well as scientific research collaboration between the two universities in the future. Rector Li Simin of Guangxi University of Science and Technology highly appreciated the joint establishment of the Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture Research between the two universities and expressed hope for the implementation of many cooperation programs in language, culture, and society to promote relations between the two universities and serve the development of both countries.
Rector Li Simin also proposed that the two universities jointly organize an international scientific conference on the experiences of both countries in studying Marxism-Leninism in the first half of 2019; develop a plan to send students majoring in Social Work to study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for one semester; and implement joint scientific research projects.

During this same period, nearly 100 students and lecturers from the Faculty of Linguistics and the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, who were on an internship and exchange program at Guangxi University of Science and Technology (from July 5th to 16th, 2018), participated in and witnessed the establishment ceremony of the Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture.

Collaborative improvement of Vietnamese language curricula at Guangxi University for Nationalities.
On July 11, 2018, the delegation from the University continued its work at Guangxi University for Nationalities. Vice President Cui Xiaolin, along with leaders from the Southeast Asian Academy, the Academy of International Education, and the International Cooperation Office, welcomed the delegation.
Vice Rector Cui Xiaolin reiterated the friendly cooperative relationship between the two universities since 2003. Over the past 15 years of cooperation, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has annually accepted 30-50 students majoring in Vietnamese language to study there.
During the meeting, the leaders of the two universities discussed improving the Vietnamese language curriculum for students and enhancing the qualifications of Vietnamese language lecturers. The two universities will continue to support each other in doctoral training and discuss the possibility of organizing scientific research conferences on the Vietnamese language and culture, as well as research conferences on the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of China…

On July 12th, the delegation continued its working visit to the Guangxi International Trade Professional Technical Academy and met with Vice President Le Hong Me and leaders of the International Cooperation Department and the Faculty of Foreign Languages. During the meeting, leaders of both schools introduced the history of their respective institutions and discussed the training of students majoring in Vietnamese.
Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan welcomed the Vietnamese language students from the Academy who will be studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in August this year. Leaders of both universities hope that through this Vietnamese language training program, many opportunities for future cooperation will open up.

Proposal for a short-term exchange program for English and French majors at Guangxi Foreign Languages University.
On July 12th, the delegation visited and worked with Guangxi Foreign Languages Academy. Ms. Song Yafei, Vice President of Guangxi Foreign Languages Academy, along with representatives from the European and American Studies Department, the Eastern Languages Department, the Continuing Education Department, and the International Cooperation Office, welcomed the delegation.
Leaders from both universities discussed the possibility of continuing the cooperation program to send Vietnamese language majors to study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as the possibility of organizing short-term exchange programs of 1-2 weeks for English and French language majors from the Academy. The Academy's leadership also hoped that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would organize a student delegation to participate in a 2-week exchange and internship program at Guangxi Foreign Languages Academy.

Leaders of Yunnan University support strengthening cooperation between the two universities.
On July 13th, the delegation continued its working visit to Yunnan University, the number one university in Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. The delegation was welcomed by the leaders of the Foreign Language Institute - Professor Lac Hong and the Head of the Vietnamese Department - Ms. Truong Thieu Cuc, along with lecturers from the Linguistics Department.
During the meeting, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his hope that the two sides would implement cooperation programs for student and faculty exchange, and collaborate on research. The leaders of the Foreign Language Institute, Yunnan University, affirmed their continued support for cooperation programs between the two universities, as well as between the Foreign Language Institute and the Vietnamese Language Department of the Foreign Language Institute and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Linguistics Department. In addition, the two sides will explore research topics and organize book translation into Chinese...

Yunnan Nationalities University proposed that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities join the Lancang-Mekong University Association.
On the afternoon of July 13th, the delegation continued its working visit to Yunnan Nationalities University. The Vice President of Yunnan Nationalities University, Professor Li Bingze, the Secretary of the Southeast Asian Language Institute, the Secretary of the Lancang-Mekong Vocational College, the International Cooperation Office, and representatives of Vietnamese language students participated in the meeting.

Vice President Li Bingze affirmed that the two sides will continue to cooperate in training students majoring in Vietnamese language, and also proposed that the two universities jointly organize a Vietnamese language proficiency test at Yunnan Nationalities University.
In particular, Professor Li Bingze introduced the newly established Lancang-Mekong University College (established in 2017), which specializes in implementing collaborative training programs between universities in six countries (including China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam). He also proposed that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities join the Lancang-Mekong University Association (currently, 28 Chinese universities are members of the Association, with each of the remaining Southeast Asian countries selecting only two universities).
Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan thanked the leaders of Yunnan Nationalities University for their interest in and trust in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as for continuing to send students to Hanoi to study Vietnamese. Regarding the proposals from Yunnan Nationalities University, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan will seek the opinion of the Rector and the Board of Directors of the University and will respond as soon as possible.
