Meeting and working with Dr. Taiji Hotta (Hiroshima University, Japan)

On September 7, 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Office of Cooperation and Development, met and worked with Dr. Taiji Hotta (Vice Rector in charge of International Education, International Center, Hiroshima University). The meeting aimed to discuss the PECACA student exchange program between the University and Hiroshima University.

The PEACE Student Exchange Program is an acronym for “Effective Educational Cooperation Project with CLMV Countries to Promote Research and Social Planning Capacity for Peaceful, Integrated, and Sustainable Development”. The program aims to train professional human resources for CLMV countries, enabling them to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the integrated and sustainable development of the Asian region. Participating students will study for one to four semesters at Hiroshima University, from April 8, 2017 to February 14, 2018; they will receive sponsored round-trip airfare and may apply for a JASSO scholarship worth 80,000 yen/month to cover living expenses. The five fields of study in this program are Food and Pharmacy, Environment and Resources, Education and Employment, Language and Culture, and International Economics and Management.

Currently, Hiroshima University has implemented the PEACE program with several partners in four countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand. The five Vietnamese partners in this program are Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy; University of Transport and Communications; and Foreign Trade University. Dr. Taiji Hotta stated that Hiroshima University hopes to welcome and will provide the best possible conditions for students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi to participate in the PEACE program. In return, Hiroshima University will also send students to the University.

On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic sharing from Hiroshima University. The University is committed to selecting the best candidates to apply for the PEACE program; at the same time, the University is ready to welcome Hiroshima University students to study and conduct research in short-term programs, summer courses, etc. The Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Office of Cooperation and Development will be the liaison between the two sides.
