Accordingly, in the 2016 recognition period, 65 educators nationwide were recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Professor and 638 educators as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor. Of these, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, had 10 educators recognized as meeting the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha emphasized: The recognition and appointment of professors and associate professors is a major and important policy of the Party and the State aimed at building, training, and utilizing a team of leading and key scientific staff in training and research institutions according to national standards, gradually approaching the standards of advanced countries in the region and the world.
This policy also provides a basis for defining the roles, responsibilities, and career paths for scientific and educational staff; and serves as a foundation for proposing and implementing policies and regulations regarding the utilization and remuneration of highly qualified and reputable intellectuals.
From 1980 to 2015, after 24 rounds of evaluation over 36 years, the total number of professors and associate professors recognized in our country was 11,619, including 1,680 professors and 9,939 associate professors. The team of professors and associate professors in our country has been making active and important contributions to improving the quality of education and training, scientific research, and technology transfer, contributing to the cause of national construction and development.
This year, 931 candidates nationwide applied for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. Of these, 118 applied for the title of Professor and 813 applied for the title of Associate Professor at 107 university-level Professorship Councils, which is 250 more than in 2015.
