Strengthening cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University (China)

On November 8, 2016, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and worked with a delegation from Beijing Foreign Studies University (China), led by Professor Yan Guohua (Vice Rector). Also participating in the meeting were representatives from the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, the Faculty of Linguistics, and the Office of Cooperation and Development.

Strengthening cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University (China)

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a leading university in training and research in the social sciences and humanities. The university currently has 17 faculties, 12 centers and research institutes, as well as over 10,000 students and trainees at various levels and training programs. In 1995, the University established the Department of Chinese Studies under the Faculty of Oriental Studies and has been providing training from bachelor's to doctoral levels in Chinese Studies. Many Chinese students have studied subjects such as International Studies, Vietnamese Studies, and Vietnamese language at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the framework of 1+3 and 2+2 training programs. The University hopes to further expand its cooperative relationships with Chinese universities and research institutes.

Professor Yan Guohua expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and proposed several collaborative activities between Taichung University of Science and Technology and the University, such as organizing international conferences and student and faculty exchanges. In particular, Professor Yan Guohua hoped that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would support the compilation of Vietnamese language textbooks, organize Vietnamese language proficiency tests using the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Assessment Test, and establish a Center for Vietnamese Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University. This center would serve as a training and research center on Vietnam, as well as a place to promote cooperation between the two sides.

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan pledged that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would facilitate the establishment of a Center for Vietnamese Studies and support the training of Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies for the Chinese side. At the same time, the University would promote information about Beijing Foreign Studies University to all its staff, lecturers, and students. The Cooperation and Development Department will act as the liaison between the two sides.

On September 13, 2016, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Pham Quang Minh, visited and signed a cooperation agreement with Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Beijing Foreign Studies University is China's largest and most prestigious foreign language university, currently offering courses in 74 languages, including over 30 rare languages. Hundreds of Chinese ambassadors have been students of the university. In the future, Beijing Foreign Studies University plans to offer courses in all world languages. The Vietnamese Language Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University has been teaching for over 60 years and has achieved many accomplishments. It plans to establish a Vietnam Research Center this year to further enhance its training and in-depth research on Vietnam.
