On September 28th, the Department of History held the first Pham Than Duyat Award ceremony for Master's and Bachelor's degree holders in History and a meeting with students to celebrate the start of the new academic year.This is the first year the Pham Than Duyat Award has been presented to outstanding Master's and Bachelor's degree holders in History. The Faculty of History (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was the first unit to award the Pham Than Duyat Prize to Master's and Bachelor's degree holders in History in 2010.
Pham Than Duyat was a patriotic intellectual, a cultural figure, and a brilliant historian. He, along with Ton That Thuyet, escorted King Ham Nghi to Son Phong (Quang Tri province) to launch the Can Vuong movement against the French. He was also the chief reviewer of the largest national history of the Nguyen dynasty, "Kham Dinh Viet Su Thong Giam Cuong Muc" (Imperial Compilation of the Comprehensive History of Vietnam). He also left behind many valuable works of poetry, prose, diaries, and memorials such as Quan Thanh Van Tap (Quan Thanh Literary Collection), Vang Su Thien Tan Nhat Ky (Diary of a Missionary in Thien Tan), Quang Thanh Tau Tap (Quang Thanh Memorial Collection), and Ha De Tau Tap (Ha De Memorial Collection)...
The Pham Than Duyat History Award was established in 2000, commemorating the 115th anniversary of the death of the renowned figure Pham Than Duyat. The award is jointly established by the Vietnam Historical Science Association and the Pham Than Duyat Award Fund (chaired by descendants of Pham Than Duyat). This year's Pham Than Duyat Award was presented to 5 master's and 4 bachelor's graduates of the History Department with outstanding dissertations and graduation theses. At the ceremony, the History Department also awarded the 6th Le Van Huu History Scholarship (a scholarship for History Department students) to 3 students from the K51 cohort who graduated with honors. Additionally, 16 students from various cohorts with outstanding academic achievements, students who are Youth Union/Student Association officials with excellent academic performance, and students who overcame difficulties to excel in their studies were also recognized.
