This is the first time the Youth Union and Student Association of the University have implemented this program to help new students prepare for their university studies, creating opportunities for them to learn and showcase their talents and abilities. The event also contributes to connecting students from different years, building a spirit of solidarity in learning and training among students throughout the university.
Meeting to commemorate the Day for the Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence
The launching ceremony for the "Say No to Domestic Violence" campaign was the opening event for the 2014 freshman orientation. The ceremony was attended by Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nghia – Deputy Minister of Education and Training, and Mr. Nguyen Long Hai – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
The ceremony contributed to conveying profound messages about the important role of family for each individual and society. Concluding the meeting, thousands of students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities expressed their determination: "Say no to domestic violence."
Seminar "Preparing for New Students"
Also on the morning of September 27th, a seminar titled "Preparing for New Students" was held. The program included advice and Q&A sessions from Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Head of the Department of Politics and Student Affairs, and Mai Thi Dung, the top graduate of the K50 cohort.
Here, new students have the opportunity to interact and exchange experiences with teachers and senior students, gaining the necessary skills to integrate into their new learning and training environment. A number of their concerns and difficulties have been addressed.
Le Hong Ngat (K59, Han Nom major) shared: “This program is very meaningful for us new students. Through it, we gain more understanding about our teachers, the school, and the necessary skills when entering university.”
The seminar provided new and useful knowledge for the freshmen, helping them acquire the necessary skills to study effectively in the university environment.
"USSH's Got Talent" Final
This was the highlight event of the 2014 freshman orientation. After the preliminary round, 15 outstanding performances delivered explosive shows in the final round of the Humanities Student Talent Search competition, which took place at 8 PM on September 27th at the outdoor stage.
At the end of the competition, the Gold award was given to Mai Trung Thai from the K59 Journalism and Communication program for his popping dance performance. The Rumbo Club and the drama group from the Psychology Department won the Silver award. Two Crystal awards went to Tran Thi Thanh Huyen (Social Work major, Sociology Department) and Nguyen Van Son from the K59 Department of Archival Studies and Office Management. The Promising Talent award was given to Nguyen Thanh Dat (K59 Department of Archival Studies and Office Management) and Phung Thu Giang (K59 Department of Political Science).
Notably, this year, the Organizing Committee also awarded the prize for the most enthusiastic supporters to the Department of Anthropology. In addition to the talent performances, the judges and guests also interacted with the students of the university.
"Green Humanism" Festival
As part of the activities welcoming new students, the "Green Humanities" festival is one of the most meaningful events for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. During the festival, students participated in cleaning the campus grounds and lecture halls, whitewashing tree trunks, and removing advertising posters from pedestrian bridges and ATMs around the campus.
Hoang Thi Lan (a social work student) shared: “This is an annual activity of the school aimed at building a green, clean, and beautiful campus. It is one of the activities to welcome new students, reminding everyone to be conscious of maintaining hygiene and building a clean and beautiful school environment.”
In addition, the recruitment day for collaborators of the school's teams and groups also attracted a large number of new students. At each team's booth, there were many students registering for interviews. Furthermore, on the afternoon of September 27th, students also attended a screening of the film "Living with History," and interacted with director Nguyen Thanh Van and the film crew.
The Freshman Orientation Day is a very meaningful event, creating a beneficial playground for new students, thereby leaving a strong impression of a youthful, vibrant, and passionate student life.
