Opening the series of events, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University) on behalf of the University's leadership board presented Decision No. 2954/QD-XHNV-TC appointing Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang as Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology. Thus, the leadership team of the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, has now been fully formed.
Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang holds a PhD in socio-cultural anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada; and a Master's degree from Vrije University Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2007, with a dissertation researching the impacts of urbanization on people in Hanoi, Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang's main research areas include urban anthropology, transnational anthropology, globalization, ethnic policy, and heritage anthropology.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector) expressed his joy at appointing a new Deputy Dean who is capable, well-trained, and dedicated to his work. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan also expressed his hope that Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang, in his new position, will effectively utilize his knowledge, experience, initiative, creativity, and especially his accumulated international experience to successfully complete the assigned tasks. The university and the Faculty leadership team will always be ready to support the new Deputy Dean in his future endeavors.

Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang expressed his gratitude for the kind wishes from the Rector and pledged to strive to effectively implement the two assigned tasks: scientific research and quality assurance. The new Vice Dean hopes to receive support and cooperation from the leadership, staff, lecturers, and students to promote all aspects of activities, thereby enhancing the Faculty's standing and contributing to the development of the University in general.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Truong Giang (Deputy Head of the Department of Anthropology) announced the Decision to award the Phan Huu Dat Prize 2021.
Following this, the Department of Anthropology presented the Phan Huu Dat Award to outstanding students and trainees. The Phan Huu Dat Award Fund was established in 2011, based on the voluntary contributions of Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Phan Huu Dat – a prominent scientist in the fields of Ethnology and Anthropology, who has made significant contributions to the development of the Department and the University. The award serves as a great encouragement for students pursuing Anthropology, demonstrating the University's commitment to one of its fundamental and important fields of study.
This year, the Fund awarded 13 scholarships (worth 1 million VND each) to 12 full-time undergraduate students and 1 postgraduate student from the Faculty of Anthropology who have achieved high academic and scientific research results, made significant contributions to the Youth Union and Student Association activities, and students from the Social Sciences-2021 cohort who achieved high results in university entrance exams; and awarded 1 collective prize (worth 3 million VND each) to 10 students from the Faculty of Anthropology who have strived to overcome challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Representing the students of the Faculty, student Tran Khanh Van (K65, Faculty of Anthropology) delivered a speech expressing deep gratitude for the care and attention of the teachers and demonstrating determination to successfully complete all tasks in the coming academic year.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Suu chaired the training course "Network Ethnology".
Following the Phan Huu Dat Award ceremony was the "Online Ethnology" training course. The course aimed to equip students, trainees, and postgraduate researchers in Anthropology with the latest methodological knowledge in anthropology worldwide. The course provided knowledge on online ethnology, an effective solution for anthropology students to continue their scientific research, complete theses, dissertations, and doctoral papers using a new approach suitable for the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was also an activity of the Faculty of Anthropology to unify innovation, response, and adaptation in teaching and scientific research, combining online and in-person methods in the current COVID-19 pandemic context.
During the training course, 10 anthropologists working at the Department of Anthropology, the Institute of Ethnology, and the French Institute for Development Studies presented and trained students, trainees, and postgraduate researchers in the Department of Anthropology on the following topics: From Ethnology to Cyber Ethnology; Cyber Sociology; Research on Cyber Sociology; Cyber Ethnology; Planning and Preparation; Research Ethics Issues; Document Collection; Researchers and Participation in Document Collection and Creation; Document Analysis and Interpretation; Representation; Humanistic Cyber Ethnology.
