Monthly meeting for September, Quarter III, and implementation of tasks for the 2021-2022 school year.

On September 6, 2021, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, held its online meeting. Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector) chaired the meeting, and in attendance were the Party Secretary, Vice Rectors, Secretaries of Party branches, Heads of affiliated units, and leaders of various organizations and associations.

The conference heard reports on the implementation of work in August 2021 and the work plan for September 2021 from the units.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of Administration and General Affairs Department) presented the work progress for August 2021 and the work plan for September 2021.

Accordingly, in August, the school implemented many activities in four key areas:

  • Party, organizational, and mass organization work: approved the Party Committee personnel plan; the Party Committee's Inspection Committee for the 28th term, 2020-2025; continued to consolidate leadership and management personnel in some units under the administrative block and some faculty-level units; supported the Association of Retired Teachers in administering Covid-19 vaccines; organized the graduation ceremony for K62 students online;

  • Training, student affairs, quality assurance, inspection and legal affairs: implementing summer semester training for the 2020-2021 academic year; developing the training schedule for the 2021-2022 academic year; providing timely support to foreign and out-of-province students in Hanoi facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic;

  • Scientific research, cooperation and development: evaluating and issuing decisions on awarding international publications; reviewing the progress of state-level research projects; reviewing the activities of research centers;

  • Administrative, infrastructure, financial, and IT tasks: organizing the 2020-2021 Staff and Employee Conference; contacting and organizing vaccination for school staff and employees; completing the IT infrastructure upgrade project for submission to the Board of Directors for approval; and training lecturers on the application of IT in teaching.

In September 2021, the school will continue to implement and launch new tasks in the aforementioned areas.

Dr. Dao Minh Quan (Deputy Head of Training Department) reported on the situation of online training and teaching in the past academic year and the plan for the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year.

Next, Dr. Dao Minh Quan (Deputy Head of the Training Department) presented a paper entitled "Online Training in the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities: Current Situation and Some Proposals". The paper highlighted some key results in training in the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, pointed out the advantages and difficulties, conveyed the directives of Vietnam National University, Hanoi on online training in the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year, and presented the University's online training plan for the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year.

After listening to the reports and discussions, the Conference heard speeches from the Party Committee Secretaries, Vice Rectors, and representatives from the Faculties, departments, and units under and directly affiliated with the University. All opinions agreed with the draft report prepared by the Administrative and General Affairs Department and proposed specific suggestions to further improve the effectiveness of work in September and in the new academic year.

Concluding the conference, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of the units in carrying out their tasks in August, and expressed his hope that the units would continue to strive to complete the targets and tasks in September and the third quarter of 2021. In particular, the Rector emphasized the work of preventing and controlling the Covid-19 epidemic and the work of student recruitment and training.

In addition to the tasks for September, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan also gave some directives on five key tasks for the 2021-2022 academic year: creating breakthroughs in the development of scientific staff, restructuring scientific research projects, innovating training methods, modernizing the facilities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and optimizing financial management.

I. Key tasks for September 2021

1. Disease prevention measures:

  • Continue to strengthen COVID-19 prevention and control measures for faculty and students of the University; paying particular attention to Directive 20 of Hanoi City;
  • Continue searching for vaccine sources to ensure vaccinations are administered on schedule;
  • Strengthen efforts to support disadvantaged students during the lockdown period, promptly paying attention to the living conditions and studies of students, especially those who are F0 or F1 cases and those living in quarantined or locked-down areas.

2. Admissions and Training

  • Successfully complete the remaining admission rounds (University admission based on high school graduation exam results; Postgraduate admission round 2);
  • Implement training activities for Semester 1 according to plan.

3. Other tasks

  • Complete and issue the 2021-2022 school year plan; Continue to strengthen the leadership and management personnel in the remaining units; Continue to finalize the school evaluation report…

II. Some key tasks for the 2021-2022 school year

1. Creating breakthroughs in the development of scientific staff.

  • Strengthen the program to support international publications, invest directly in enabling staff to increase their international publications and research projects using the university's funds; establish a single point of contact to support international publishing for staff, restructuring to avoid creating additional administrative units and personnel.
  • Support the promotion of high-quality domestic scientific publications and the improvement of foreign language skills among staff.

2. Restructuring scientific research topic systems

  • Providing guidance and support to staff to enhance their participation in research projects funded by the NAFOSTED Foundation and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • Continue to promote the implementation of state-level and ministerial-level science programs, as well as programs with local authorities…
  • Innovate the organization and management of scientific research at the unit: issue relevant management document systems (support for international publications; translation of textbooks and outstanding reference books; increase funding for basic-level research projects, etc.).

3. Innovating Training Methods

  • Increase investment in elite training, especially in traditional and distinctive basic science fields.
  • Expand the socialization system to include applied fields with high demand from learners.
  • Develop AB and AB + C training models to revitalize some traditional basic science disciplines.
  • Restructuring postgraduate training programs.

4. Upgrading the school's facilities.

  • Optimizing space and modernizing facilities at the Thuong Dinh campus:
  • Implementing the project to build the school's facilities in Hoa Lac in collaboration with Vietnam National University, Hanoi:
  • Building a modern digital governance system:

5. Optimizing Financial Management

  • The university will strengthen its efforts to secure investment from short-term and medium-term funding sources of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (renovating the entire G building and the four exterior facades of the E building; investing in a comprehensive IT infrastructure including equipment, network connections, wifi, etc.). Simultaneously, it will seek social resources to develop infrastructure through socialized methods, public-private partnerships, etc.
  • The school will increase investment from its internal budget in a direct manner, with product commitments and performance evaluations.

6. Other important tasks

  • Cooperation and development efforts should focus on developing and leveraging key, potential partners to utilize resources for the development of science and training at the University; quality assurance in training will be reformed to improve the quality of evaluating training programs and improve the ranking of the Social Sciences and Humanities field within VNU; student affairs (including the activities of the Youth Union and Student Association) will be improved towards a professional, modern, and service-oriented approach, strongly focusing on career guidance and entrepreneurship for students, and developing skills systems linked to modern models such as ASK, KASH, etc.
