Due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony to appoint the new President of VNU was held online at VNU and the following locations: VNU-HCM, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee and functional departments, member units, and affiliated units of VNU-Hanoi.
Previously, on June 24, 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision No. 998/QD-TTg appointing Mr. Le Quan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to hold the position of Director of Hanoi National University.
Attending the ceremony at the VNU bridge point were Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Education and Training, Chairman of the VNU Council; Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Dao Ngoc Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission and comrades representing the leaders of the Party Central Committee Office, the Government Office, the President's Office, the National Assembly Office, central ministries and branches and representatives of the leaders of Ca Mau province.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam presented the decision to appoint the new Director of VNU to Prof. Dr. Le Quan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam acknowledged and highly appreciated the role and important contributions of VNU to the cause of education - training and development of high-quality human resources for the country.
During its growth and development, VNU has affirmed its leading position in the Vietnamese higher education system. In particular, 2021 is the fourth consecutive year that VNU has been ranked in the top 801-1000 universities globally and in the top 251-300 universities in Asia in the 2021 Asia University Rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE) magazine in early June.
“This is a great step forward, a great effort of the collective of managers, lecturers, scientists, workers, students, postgraduates of VNU in the context of limited investment resources for education and training, especially being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020." – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam affirmed.
The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the previous Director Nguyen Kim Son who was recently assigned by the Party and State to be the head of the education and training sector, and congratulated and officially assigned the task to the new Director of VNU Le Quan.
The Deputy Prime Minister believes that with his experience in holding many important leadership positions, the new President of VNU, together with the leadership, staff, teachers and scientists of VNU, will continue to inherit and promote the results and achievements that have been achieved, take creative and strong steps, and further develop VNU in the coming time.
VNU also needs to have specific measures and solutions to soon develop in the direction of an advanced research university with prestige in the region and the world. Not only stopping at pure scientific research, VNU's research products must have high practical applicability, contributing to the country's innovation activities.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam congratulated and assigned tasks to the new Director of VNU.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam requested that VNU should continue to promote domestic and international cooperation activities, especially local cooperation activities, promote and improve the effectiveness and substance of the "5-party" cooperation model of the state - university - research institute - enterprise - locality to carry out scientific and technological tasks to serve the socio-economic development of the country and localities, and arouse the desire for creativity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son congratulated comrade Le Quan on becoming the 6th Director of VNU. Minister Nguyen Kim Son hopes that the new Director will continue to persevere and consistently implement the goals of the 6th Congress of the VNU Party Committee: Building an exemplary, clean, strong Party Committee with high fighting power and leadership ability, striving to be in the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities in the world by 2025, making VNU the leading university in the Vietnamese higher education system.
New VNU Director Le Quan shows determination and efforts to develop VNU in the new period
In his inaugural speech, the new President of VNU, Le Quan expressed his determination and efforts to join hands with the staff, lecturers, scientists, students and trainees of VNU to build VNU, a worthy university, playing a pioneering role in the innovation of Vietnamese higher education, affirming its high position at home and abroad.
New Director Le Quan also expressed his gratitude to the previous Directors and leaders who had made great contributions in establishing and building the first important foundations to bring VNU to its current position. "In the upcoming journey, I really hope to continue to receive help, sharing and support from generations of VNU leaders so that I can successfully complete all assigned tasks" - the new Director expressed.
The new President of VNU was born in 1974 in Hanoi, his hometown is Quang Ngai, he is a member of the 14th National Assembly and was recently elected to the 15th National Assembly in Ca Mau province with high confidence. Mr. Le Quan has held leadership and management positions such as: Head of the Department of Human Resources Management (University of Commerce), Member of the Board of Directors of the Francophone Entrepreneurship Institute, Member of the Executive Board of the network of scientists researching entrepreneurship (Francophone University Organization); Director of the Center for International Training and Education (University of Economics, VNU); Head of the Organization and Personnel Department of VNU; Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Head of the Organization and Personnel Department of VNU, Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Party Committee of VNU, Vice President of VNU; Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province. |
