Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam presents the appointment decision to the new Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

On June 28, 2021, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and his delegation visited Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and presented the appointment decision for the new Director of VNU to Professor Dr. Le Quan.

Due to the complex developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony for the appointment of the new Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) was held online at VNU and other locations: Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, and functional departments, member units, and affiliated organizations of VNU.

Previously, on June 24, 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision No. 998/QD-TTg appointing Mr. Le Quan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, to the position of Director of Hanoi National University.

Attending the ceremony at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) venue were Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Education and Training, Chairman of the VNU Council; Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Dao Ngoc Dung - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee, along with representatives from the Central Party Office, the Government Office, the Presidential Office, the National Assembly Office, central ministries and agencies, and representatives from the leadership of Ca Mau province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam acknowledged and highly appreciated the role and important contributions of Vietnam National University, Hanoi to the cause of education and training and the development of high-quality human resources for the country.

Throughout its journey of growth and development, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has affirmed its leading position in the Vietnamese higher education system. Notably, 2021 marked the fourth consecutive year that VNU ranked among the top 801-1000 universities globally and among the top 251-300 universities in Asia in the 2021 Asian University Rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE) in early June.

"This is a remarkable step forward, a tremendous effort by the entire staff, faculty, scientists, workers, students, and postgraduate students of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in the context of limited resources for education and training, especially given the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic from the beginning of 2020 to the present."—Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam affirmed.

The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated former Director Nguyen Kim Son on being entrusted by the Party and State with the important responsibility of leading the education and training sector, and also congratulated and officially assigned the new Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Le Quan.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that, with his experience in holding many important leadership positions, the new Director of VNU will, together with the leadership team, staff, teachers, and scientists of VNU, continue to inherit and build upon the achievements already attained, take creative and bold steps, and lead VNU to further development in the future.

The Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) also needs specific measures and solutions to develop as an advanced research university with prestige in the region and the world. It should not only focus on pure scientific research, but its research products must have high practical application, contributing to the country's innovation activities.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam requested that Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continue to strengthen domestic and international cooperation, especially local cooperation, promoting and enhancing the effectiveness and substance of the "five-party" cooperation model (state - university - research institute - enterprise - locality) to implement science and technology tasks serving the socio-economic development of the country and localities, and to inspire a spirit of innovation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son congratulated Comrade Le Quan on becoming the 6th Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). Minister Nguyen Kim Son expressed his hope that the new Director would continue to steadfastly and consistently pursue the goals of the 6th Congress of the VNU Party Committee: building an exemplary, clean, strong Party Committee with high fighting capacity and leadership ability, striving to be among the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities in the world by 2025, and making VNU a leading university in the Vietnamese higher education system.

The new Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Le Quan, expressed his determination and efforts to develop Vietnam National University, Hanoi in the new phase.

In his inaugural address, the new Director of VNU, Le Quan, expressed his determination and commitment to working together with the staff, lecturers, scientists, students, and trainees of VNU to build VNU into a leading university, playing a pioneering role in the innovation of higher education in Vietnam, and affirming its high position both domestically and internationally.

New Director Le Quan also expressed his gratitude to the previous Directors and leaders who made great contributions in establishing and building the first important foundations that brought VNU to its current position. “In the coming journey, I very much hope to continue receiving the help, sharing, and support of the generations of VNU leaders so that I can successfully complete all assigned tasks,” the new Director expressed.

The new Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was born in 1974 in Hanoi, his hometown is Quang Ngai, he was a member of the 14th National Assembly and was recently elected as a member of the 15th National Assembly representing Ca Mau province with high confidence.

Mr. Le Quan has held various leadership and management positions, including: Head of the Human Resource Management Department (University of Commerce), Member of the Board of Directors of the Francophone Business Institute, Member of the Executive Board of the Network of Scientists Researching Entrepreneurs (Francophone University Organization); Director of the Center for International Training and Education (University of Economics, VNU); Head of the Personnel Organization Department of VNU; Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Head of the Party Committee's Organization Department, Chairman of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee of VNU; Vice Director of VNU; Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province.
