(SVVN) On the occasion of International Women's Day, many student teams, groups, and clubs from universities in Hanoi are selling flowers, greeting cards, handmade items, etc., to raise funds for charity.
At the corner of building C's courtyard at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, young people from the Student Social Work Team were lent tables and chairs by the university to set up a fundraising sale.
“We sold goods from 9 am to 6 pm for three days, March 6th, 7th, and 8th. Team members were divided into shifts to work the sales, registering according to their free time,” said Van Nam, a second-year journalism student.
Van Nam works as a sales assistant alongside other team members.
Speaking with a reporter from the Vietnam Student Section of Tien Phong newspaper, team leader Dinh Bui My Hanh, a third-year social work student, said that this year's fundraising event for International Women's Day on March 8th is called "Myriad Colors and Fragrances".
“Inspired by the teachers in the highlands, with their unique beauty of resilience and loving hearts, the team wants to honor the beauty of all the ordinary women around us. Because we believe that, like the multicolored beauty of all kinds of flowers in the world, every woman has her own unique beauty that deserves to be respected and cherished,” My Hanh expressed.
Reportedly, a former student of the school who runs a gift business has facilitated opportunities for students to become sales collaborators and source goods for resale. The items include artificial flowers, teddy bears, and greeting cards, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 200,000 VND.
The profits from "Myriad Colors and Fragrances" will be used for the team's upcoming Winter Warmth 2023 - Spring Volunteer 2024 campaign, taking place at Phu Xuan Kindergarten, Phu Xuan Commune, Quan Hoa District, Thanh Hoa Province.
Here, the team plans to build a well to address the water shortage at the school in the mountainous area, erect a school gate and reinforce the fence, and implement a "Vegetable Garden for Children" model. In addition, the team will also donate gifts such as warm children's clothing, school supplies, toys, and sweets.

The section of Tran Dai Nghia street opposite the gate of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is where members of the Student Volunteer Team of the Chemistry Department, School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, are selling goods to raise funds. The team started accepting online orders on March 5th and will be selling directly on March 7th and 8th.
Team leader Bui Dinh Duc shared: “Every year, the team organizes fundraising activities by selling flowers on March 8th, October 20th, and November 20th. Besides the main purpose of generating funds for the team's activities such as member recruitment, field trips, and semester events, this also provides funding for major volunteer campaigns including Green Summer, Warm Winter, and Mid-Autumn Festival.”
Popular gifts for International Women's Day (March 8th) - bouquets of candy and flowers made with velour wire.
Besides traditional items like fresh flowers and wax flowers, the stall also features "hot trend" products such as bouquets made from candy and bouquets made from velvet wire. A single wax rose costs 15,000 VND, while the most expensive fresh flower bouquets cost over 300,000 VND.
To prepare for the fundraising sale event, the Logistics team members planned and purchased the necessary supplies two weeks in advance. Once everything was ready, the entire team gathered and began making the floral products.
Because the sales point is located near the three universities of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Economics, and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the customers are mainly young people. Some teachers and passersby also stop to buy goods.
Meanwhile, at the gate of the University of Commerce on Ho Tung Mau Street, a group of students from the Institute of Business Administration's Volunteer Student Team used cardboard boxes and repurposed plant pots to set up a fundraising booth.
The student team sells a variety of items: fresh flowers, glitter flowers, wax flowers, tulips, and teddy bears. Not only are these items affordable for students, but they also look very attractive and modern.
“We sell both Jellycat and Loopy plush toys, two gifts that have been very popular on social media lately. Prices range from 20,000 VND to 500,000 VND. There's a wide variety of products, from those for individuals to those for class groups,” Team Leader Nguyen Thu Hang enthusiastically introduced.
The profits from sales during the March 8th event will be used to fund the "Warm Sunshine 2024" program in Hoa Binh. The team plans to carry out activities such as: building youth projects for the local community, and donating gifts to disadvantaged families and underprivileged children.
To prepare for the fundraising activity, the members planned ahead of the Lunar New Year and began implementation in mid-February. The Logistics team was responsible for sourcing goods; the Human Resources team assigned members to import goods, select sales points, and obtain permission from the school; and the team members divided up the sales tasks among themselves.
Over the three days from March 6th to 8th, the Direct Sales Team of the Faculty of Business Administration's Student Union encouraged and introduced faculty members to purchase goods to support the students. In addition, the Institute's fan pages shared fundraising posts to spread the information to a wider audience.
