- Research objectives: This thesis analyzes the process of forming the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Partnership; analyzes the impacts and influences on this comprehensive partnership, aiming to explain the dynamics and development trends in ASEAN-Russia relations during the period 1996-2016.

- Research subject: Comprehensive partnership between ASEAN and the Russian Federation (1996-2016).

To conduct this research, the author used the following main methods: historical method, hierarchical analysis approach, policy analysis method, benefit analysis method, and multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary approach.

3. Main results and conclusions

3.1. Main results

- To study the development of the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Partnership in the key areas of politics, diplomacy, economics, security, science and technology, and cooperation in Southeast Asia from 1996 to 2016.

- To provide the theoretical and practical basis for the comprehensive partnership between ASEAN and the Russian Federation.

- To gain a deeper understanding of the ASEAN-Russia relationship and the multifaceted impacts of this relationship on each ASEAN country and Russia, as well as the overall situation in Southeast Asia.

- Assessing the relationship between countries in Southeast Asia and major powers, including the Russian Federation.

- To highlight the achievements and limitations of ASEAN-Russia relations, thereby determining its role in the development of ASEAN-Vietnam relations in regional international relations and in Vietnam-Russia relations.

3.2. Conclusion

- Some achievements have been made in the 20 years since the establishment of the ASEAN-Russia partnership, and this cooperation has deepened across many fields.

- The Russian Federation's engagement with ASEAN and ASEAN countries is part of its pivot to Asia policy announced in 2016.

- ASEAN is a large market for machine-made products, aerospace technology, and oil and gas exploration equipment; it is also a major arms export market for the Russian Federation and could open the way for expanding cooperation in mixed industries.

- Looking ahead to the partnership, ASEAN and the Russian Federation have significant potential for cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, connectivity, infrastructure development, tourism, energy, and education and training.

- The ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Partnership, with its fine traditions, deep respect, trust, and mutual assistance, has overcome many challenges and is reaching new heights.
