Within the family, the relationships between parents and children, husband and wife, and siblings are blood ties filled with affection, love, and responsibility; bringing each other moments of happiness and peaceful times. For this reason, the family is considered a paradise in a heartless world. However, somewhere, the family has become a hell, a source of pain and torment, both physically and mentally, due to acts of violence. Along with the development of society towards civilization, fairness, and equality, domestic violence – the highest manifestation of gender inequality – seems to be on the rise, with increasingly diverse forms and greater prevalence. Therefore, it is no coincidence that in recent years, the themes of "Say No to Domestic Violence" and "For a Violence-Free Home," along with many national action programs aimed at preventing and combating domestic violence, have been frequently mentioned on Vietnamese Family Day. This confirms that domestic violence in our country has become a major concern for the social community as well as researchers. Based on a philosophical perspective on social issues, we have chosen the topic of gender-based violence within families in Vietnam today as the subject of our master's thesis. By identifying the research subject as violence between husband and wife in a two-way, reciprocal relationship, and the tasks of addressing this issue, we aim to: understand the current state of gender-based violence within families in our country, thereby evaluating and analyzing its consequences and causes, and proposing some solutions and recommendations to prevent and combat gender-based violence and build gender equality within the family. Based on the worldview and methodology of Marxist-Leninist philosophy, the research process closely combined logical and historical methods to address the tasks of the topic. Structured into 2 chapters and 5 sections, the thesis achieved its research objective: to provide a comprehensive assessment of the current state of gender-based violence in families in Vietnam. A particularly novel aspect of the thesis is its exploration of the reality of violence by wives against husbands, contributing to a more comprehensive study of domestic violence. It analyzed and pointed out the serious consequences of gender-based violence on individual, family, and social development. Furthermore, the thesis delved into the causes and identified the underlying nature of gender-based violence as gender inequality, and based on this, proposed several solutions to prevent domestic violence and build gender equality within the family. The results of this thesis contribute to enriching the theoretical framework of social sciences and humanities in general, especially the research on wife-to-husband violence, making the study of gender-based domestic violence more comprehensive and multifaceted; at the same time, it raises the awareness of each individual in society to prevent acts of violence and gender-based violence in order to build sustainable families and societies in the new century. 11.
