Summary of the thesis results: Through the process of writing the thesis, I have obtained the following results: In "Truyen Kieu", Nguyen Du described the character's appearance using conventional and symbolic writing - a typical art of medieval literature to describe the appearance of the main character. Thereby expressing the personality and fate of characters such as Thuy Kieu, Thuy Van, Tu Hai, Kim Trong. As for the villains, Nguyen Du vividly described their appearance to the point of being naked, making the characters close to everyday life, depicting typical personalities in typical situations such as Ma Giam Sinh, Hoan Thu, Tu Ba, So Khanh... This is an innovation of Vietnamese medieval literature, at the same time aiming at, "gently touching" the realist literary trend of modern Vietnamese literature later on, specifically the characters in Nam Cao's works. In the Vietnamese realist literary trend, Nam Cao has a simple, rustic but extremely sharp writing style, successfully depicting the fate and personality of people whose whole lives are only attached to the bamboo fences, the stubble, the dike through the way he describes the appearance of those characters. If in “Truyen Kieu”, the reader is predetermined about the appearance of the character in a unified, logical order that is not immutable from the moment the character appears, going through many events, ups and downs of fate, but that appearance, that posture, that style never change; then the appearance of the characters in Nam Cao’s works changes according to the circumstances, according to the changing flow of human life, of life. Obviously, two authors, two different eras, two different living conditions, two different writing styles but have similarities, meeting in the same “circumstances” - those are the characters of their “brainchild”. People often say that geniuses often have the same positive thoughts even though they are far apart… and here, Nguyen Du and Nam Cao are also in the same case. The characters of these two authors have “similar” appearances, from which they “resemble” the fate and personality of human life in the cycle of reincarnation of creation. In addition, the thesis also exploits the influence and inheritance of Nguyen Du and Nam Cao with regional and world literature. More specifically, if in the Middle Ages, the authors were influenced by Chinese culture, Chinese literature, and Nguyen Du was no exception in his works.; then Nam Cao - a critical realist writer of modern Vietnamese literature was influenced by Western literature. Thereby, to highlight the similarities and differences selectively in the writing style, in the way of describing the appearance of the characters of these two authors. From the above comparison, our thesis has helped to approach medieval and modern literature more easily, from which we have a more convenient method of teaching literature in high schools. 11.
