Summary of the thesis results: We chose the issue of time as the research topic for this thesis because Jonathan Littell's *The Good Men* is a memoir about people in wartime from the perspective of a former SS officer – the main character and also the narrator. The nature of the memoir dominates the tone, creating a kind of overlapping and interwoven time in the almost stream-of-consciousness flow of the main character. In addition, studying the art of time in *The Good Men* helps us to uncover the central issue of the work from both content and artistic perspectives. Besides the introduction, conclusion, and references, the thesis is structured into three chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on two major issues: general theories of time and socio-historical issues. This forms the theoretical basis for our analysis of the art of time in the following chapters of the thesis. Chapter 2: We apply Genette's theory of time to study the levels of time in *The Good-Hearted*: temporal order, flow, and frequency. Chapter 3: We study the relationship between time and other artistic formal elements such as space, point of view, and stream of consciousness. By conducting this thesis on the above topic, we want to contribute our voice to exploring some of the dimensions of this novel, considered "the event of the century"; and at the same time, introduce the name of the writer Jonathan Littell to Vietnamese readers. 11.
