General introduction
Mission
The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) was established on February 20, 2002, as a research, training and application unit in the field of Chinese studies, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The mission of the Center is to take advantage of the basic scientific human resources of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, to organize comprehensive research on China, to provide scientific data, current and academic knowledge for policy consulting, for international research and Vietnam research. The Center is responsible for supporting research and training in fields related to China at the University, gradually building it into a strong center for Chinese studies, establishing strong research groups and following the direction of an excellent research center, developing into a research institute when conditions permit, in line with the mission of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Mission and development strategy
- Gather and build a team of prestigious domestic and foreign researchers and scholars in the fields of research, training and application of Chinese studies.
- Participate in university and postgraduate training.
- Coordinate research with Institutes, Centers and international organizations.
- Striving to become one of the leading research and training units on Chinese studies in Vietnam.
Main research direction
- Research China's movements in social sciences and humanities, especially in the fields of culture, ideology, and education.
- Research on Confucianism and Vietnamese culture in the East Asian context.
- Research on the history of Vietnamese Sinology/Chinese studies.
- Conduct research on various fields of China, including basic research, policy research and forecasting research, providing scientific arguments to enhance understanding of China, thereby improving the quality of decision-making as well as addressing challenges arising in the practical relationship between Vietnam and China.
- Synthesize and build a database system on highly applicable Chinese research.
- Contribute to building a highly capable Chinese research human resource, promote connections between research units, policy makers, businesses... in solving challenges from China, serving the goal of sustainable and stable development of Vietnam.

The Center has a large team of regular collaborators who are excellent scientists with capacity and experience in the field of research and teaching on issues of Chinese studies.
Typical activities
- Design and implement a series of research topics, programs, and projects, and build key research groups in the field of Chinese studies, including:
Strong Confucian research group with international reach.
Research group on Chinese education reform and experiences for VNU in particular and Vietnamese education in general.
Research Group on the History of Sinology/Chinese Studies in Vietnam, in cooperation with National Taiwan University.
The group that researches and builds the Sinology database system has been building digital libraries including: Han Nom documents and ancient Chinese documents related to Vietnam (http://repository.vnu.edu.vn/handle/VNU_123/33824); China Research Database (http://104.254.244.63:8080/thuvienso/)
Other research directions such as contemporary Chinese issues and their impact on Vietnam-China relations, and Chinese issues aim to build a comprehensive Chinese studies program.
- Organize and co-organize domestic scientific conferences and many international scientific conferences and seminars such as: conference "China Studies 2012-2022: Trends and Prospects"(2012), workshop "Research on Vietnamese Confucianism, viewpoints and methods” (2013), international conference “East Asian Confucianism: Tradition and Modernity” (2015), international science conference”Sinology in Vietnam: History through Narrative” (2015), co-organizer of international conference “Confucianism and Contemporary Educational Philosophy” (2016).
- Published and announced many domestic and international scientific works on China and Vietnam research, typically:Quintessence of Confucianism – Vietnam Part儒藏精华编越南之部 (2013, volume 1 Beijing University Press);Confucian classics in Vietnam(2015, reprint, VNU Publishing House, Hanoi); MinistryEast Asian Confucianism Documentation Collection - Vietnam partTaiwan University of Science and Technology Publishing House, Taiwan University of Science and Technology Publishing House (since 2011, 8 volumes have been published in Taiwan)...
- Promote scientific research cooperation with domestic and foreign research units, typically the Institute of Chinese Studies, the Institute of Han-Nom Studies, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, the Center for Confucian Studies, the Center for Chinese Studies (Peking University, China), the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities and the Center for China-Taiwan Relations Studies (National Taiwan University), the International Confucian Studies Association, etc.
- Participate in coordinating and supporting the school's training activities in the field of Chinese studies and related fields.
