Professor, Doctor, and Meritorious Teacher Mai Ngọc Chừ was born in the year of the Ox (1969) into a family with a tradition of scholarship and revolution in Đông Vinh village, Vũ Vinh commune, Vũ Thư district, Thái Bình province. His grandfather, Mai Văn Tổng (affectionately known as "Mr. Tổng" by the locals), was a renowned Confucian scholar known for his virtue and love for his students. His father, Mai Hữu Trưng, was a revolutionary loyal to the Party, devoted to the people, and extremely upright and honest. Inheriting these valuable qualities from his grandfather and father, Professor Mai Ngọc Chừ was known from a young age for his diligence, thirst for knowledge, and academic excellence.

However, Professor Mai Ngoc Chu's academic and career path was not as smooth as that of his contemporaries. In the book...Fate and SpiritualityRecently published (Hong Duc Publishing House of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, 2013), the professor "revealed" to readers the five grueling challenges he had to overcome... The book has been and is being received by readers nationwide "with undisguised enthusiasm," according to cultural and linguistic scholar Professor Tran Ngoc Them.

The fact that he was born in the year of the Ox doesn't allow him to back down from difficulties and hardships. To succeed, one must be diligent, hardworking, and resilient like an ox. Thanks to his diligent work, he has published 25 books to date, one of which has left a deep impression on readers.Eastern culture and languageThis book has won two awards: the Bronze Award for Best Book selected by the Vietnam Publishers Association and the "Outstanding Scientific and Technological Work" award from Hanoi National University.

In response to our question, "Which project left the most positive impression on you?", he said, "Each project holds a beautiful memory, but perhaps the most memorable was organizing and publishing this book series."Vietnamese HomelandThis book series is for Vietnamese people living abroad, and the author was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Training as the chief editor. The series consists of 18 books: 6 textbooks, 6 workbooks, and 6 teacher's guides. What the author is most pleased about is that the series has reached not only Vietnamese expatriates in Europe (France, Germany, etc.) and Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, etc.) but also the state of California, including Orange County, considered a "hot spot" due to the complex situation of the Vietnamese diaspora there. In 2008, the author and the editorial team had to travel to California "secretly" to train Vietnamese expatriates there on how to teach Vietnamese. The trip was a resounding success.

When asked about his most memorable experience as a teacher, he shared many interesting stories, the most impressive of which was the special affection he received from foreign readers and teachers who used the Vietnamese language textbooks he had compiled. He recounted: once, while attending an international conference on Vietnamese studies, a Western girl unexpectedly ran up to him, hugged him tightly, and exclaimed, "Oh my God, are you Professor Chừ? I'm from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and for many years I've been teaching Vietnamese using your books." He was truly surprised that in such a distant country there were people who admired and loved him so much.
