VNU-USSH organizes the November school-wide meeting

On November 6, 2023, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, VNU-USSH) chaired the November school-wide meeting. The meeting was attended by Vice Rectors, Party cell secretaries, heads of units under the school and leaders of mass organizations.

The conference listened to MSc. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of Administration - General Department) report on the results of the work in October, emphasizing a number of contents: completing the regular university enrollment work in 2023, issuing the adjusted training programs, successfully organizing the annual training conference, reviewing scholarships for students; completing the external assessment of 03 training programs of International Studies, Psychology, and Sociology according to AUN-QA standards; coordinating with partners to successfully organize major events: Taiwan Education Exhibition (China), Vietnamese Speech Contest for foreign students in 2023 (chaired by the Ministry of Education and Training); signing cooperation agreements with a number of domestic and foreign partners. At the same time, the Report also proposed a number of key tasks to be implemented in November 2023 in all areas of the School's activities.

The representative of the Faculty of Oriental Studies said: Currently, the confirmation of documents for graduate students to exchange and study abroad is facing difficulties because it is not yet determined which department is in charge of implementation. Some equipment and machinery serving teaching and professional activities of the Faculty are broken or malfunctioning but have not been replaced or repaired in time. We hope that the Board of Directors and functional departments will pay attention and support.

Dr. Pham Huy Cuong (Director of the Training Quality Assurance Center): Faculties quickly complete improvement plans after training program accreditation and submit them to the Training Quality Assurance Center for synthesis and development of school-level improvement plans. According to the recommendation of the Evaluation Team according to AUN-QA standards, it is necessary to strengthen connections with international recruitment units, international scholars, and domestic scholars because the feedback from international scholars is very important and highly appreciated.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Duc Thuan (Head of the Department of Organization and Personnel) noted: The deadline for comments on the Internal Expenditure Regulations will last until the end of November. Heads of units are requested to disseminate and collect comments from all staff and send them to the Department of Organization and Personnel. This document will be discussed and approved at the Financial Conference, scheduled to take place in January 2024.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam: Currently, the adjustment of training programs has been basically completed, training units are quickly completing payment procedures in accordance with regulations.
 
In response to the opinions of representatives of the units, Vice Principal Lai Quoc Khanh shared: The process of purchasing equipment must comply with bidding regulations and ensure financial principles, so the progress is somewhat longer, leading to delays, so we hope that the units will understand and share. However, in the coming time, the staff office needs to implement a number of solutions such as: supplementing equipment and renovating shared spaces and meeting rooms, such as professional living spaces for lecturers at the EH connecting house; maximizing the meeting room system at House E; House D; building software to manage the school's facilities to promptly grasp the status of the machinery and equipment system to have plans for repair and replacement.

Vice Principal Dao Thanh Truong shared some results of scientific research and development cooperation in October, and emphasized: in the coming time, it is necessary to promote communication for science and technology (resources, products and strong research groups); besides, he reminded units about the progress of accepting national projects, the completion deadline is the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

Vice Principal Dang Thi Thu Huong noted some key contents in the November training work: to meet the enrollment target for dual majors as well as improve quality, it is necessary to focus on consulting and guiding students to choose suitable majors; increase sharing on the USSH Student Job Portal to diversify sources of job information from employers and connect with the needs of a large number of students; connecting with international scholars needs to be implemented regularly and flexibly (participating in seminars, organizing training, giving scientific presentations, etc.) to both serve the accreditation work and contribute to improving the professional qualifications of lecturers and students.

In the conclusion of the Conference, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized: In October 2023, the School organized many activities and events in the direction of innovation, improving methods, enhancing the initiative of the focal department and achieved very positive results, high communication effects, demonstrating professionalism and efficiency, attracting the participation of a large number of students and trainees. The School received attention and was honored to welcome leaders of Party and State agencies at all levels to visit and work at the School.
In the Social Sciences ranking, VNU increased its ranking to the top 501 - 600 in the world according to THE WUR by Subjects 2024, in which the University of Social Sciences and Humanities made important contributions to this world ranking result. Also in early November, 03 training programs of the University completed external assessment according to AUN-QA standards and were highly appreciated by experts. That reflected and recognized the efforts of the Board of Directors, all lecturers, students and students of the University.

After listening to the Report on the implementation of work in October 2023, the opinions exchanged and discussed by units and functional departments, and the opinions of Vice Principals; Principal Hoang Anh Tuan concluded:
- Units coordinate to organize activities to celebrate November 20th solemnly, politely, and warmly; especially units celebrating even-year anniversaries.
- Focal units speed up the progress to complete and issue guidance documents on training (credit recognition), projects on management, international cooperation, etc.
- The Student Affairs and Cooperation Department is the focal point for confirming procedures for students and trainees when receiving scholarships to study abroad; the Training, Cooperation and Development Department closely coordinates in providing information related to students' academic results and scholarships.
- Recommend that units pay attention to and promote quality assessment and university ranking activities, strengthen and expand connections with domestic and foreign scholars, and improve the quality of university assessment and ranking activities.
- The Center for Communication and Information Technology advises and develops strategies and overall plans for the School's communication work for the Board of Directors to review and approve, focusing on communication for enrollment and science and technology.
- Continue to review facilities and equipment to have a plan for timely repair and supplementation in a flexible and practical manner, ensuring the school's operations, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations, expanding academic space, improving and optimizing shared space.
