Promoting the spirit of soldiers in building and developing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

This was shared by veterans of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU (VNU-USSH) at the Conference summarizing the emulation campaign in 2023 and implementing the work plan for 2024, organized by the University's Veterans Association on the morning of December 22, 2023.

In the atmosphere of celebrating the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2023), the Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, organized a ceremony to offer incense at the Monument commemorating generations of faculty and students of Hanoi University who served in the military and defended the Fatherland. The sacred feelings of the veteran teachers and the university leaders towards their colleagues, comrades, and fellow soldiers made the atmosphere of the ceremony even warmer and more heartfelt. This incense offering ceremony has become an annual tradition for the former soldiers; no matter how busy they are, they can never forget it.

In his opening remarks at the Conference summarizing the 2023 emulation campaign and implementing the 2024 work plan of the Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Hao - Vice President of the Veterans Association of the University, former Head of the Philosophy Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, reminded: “For the past 79 years, our soldiers have fought tirelessly to protect the country from the invasion and oppression of foreign forces. Many comrades have sacrificed their lives so that we could have what we have today. The Vietnam People's Army is not only a national defense force but also actively participates in building and developing the economy, society, and culture. They have been and are continuously contributing to the building of a stronger and more prosperous country.”

Affirming the achievements and acknowledging the sacrifices and losses of generations of staff and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the cause of national defense, Major General Nguyen Manh Su - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi City Veterans Association - stated that the University has had over 1,000 staff and lecturers who served in the military, including 105 heroic martyrs in the wars of national liberation. Returning from the battlefield, these veterans have excellently performed their duties at the university and made significant contributions to society, with 70% of veterans participating in the state administrative apparatus.
The spirit of patriotism, coupled with pride in the rich traditions of the University, has instilled in the teachers who "put aside their pens and went to fight" a spirit of courage, solidarity, and mutual support in their work and in their lives.
Veterans are an important resource for the school's development.
Associate Professor Dr. Lam Ba Nam - former Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and a member of the Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - emphasized that veterans are a crucial resource with significant contributions to the development of the university. Up to two-thirds of the veterans at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities hold doctoral degrees, associate professorships, and professorships, and are directly involved in teaching and research. With a spirit of unity and pride, these veterans of the University are always ready to contribute to the development of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular.

Returning to the classroom, the former veteran teachers continue to contribute their efforts and intellect to the sustainable development of the university. The activities of the Veterans Association, with the unanimous support of its members, have achieved many positive results. In 2023, the Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities actively encouraged members to contribute to the "Contributing Stones to Build Truong Sa" fund and the Project 03/DA-CCB fund "Hanoi City Veterans Unite to Help Members Develop the Economy, Reduce Poverty, Build Houses of Compassion and Engage in Charitable Activities" with a total amount of 5,200,000 VND; actively encouraged members to participate in the competition to discover and write about exemplary advanced individuals and good deeds, and expanded the "Exemplary Veterans in 2023" movement. The Association coordinated with the Trade Union and the Youth Union of the university to preside over and participate in major events, successfully organizing a trip to historical sites for all members.
In 2023, the Association proposed and was approved by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association to award commemorative medals to four individuals: Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Science and Technology; Professor Hoang Ba Thinh; Associate Professor Nguyen Thanh Binh; and Ms. Trinh Ngoc Tuyen. The Association also received one certificate of merit from the Hanoi City Veterans Association for the collective and three certificates of merit for three individual members.
Major General Nguyen Manh Su presented and congratulated the former military personnel of VNU-USSH who were honored to receive the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Medal in 2023.
Associate Professor Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, believes that the Veterans Association will continue to be a core resource in advising, accompanying, and supporting the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Expressing gratitude for the contributions of the Veterans Association, Associate Professor Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, believes that the Veterans Association, with its reputable intellectuals, will continue to be a core resource in advising, accompanying, and supporting the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, affirming its leading position in training and social science research in the country. The Vice Rector also affirmed that the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the university will always support meaningful activities that align with the general policies of the Veterans Association. “The University’s companionship and support for the activities of the Veterans Association is a responsibility and a very natural sentiment, because the Veterans Association is an important part of what makes up the image of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities,” Associate Professor Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh stated.
