The University of Social Sciences and Humanities attracts international cooperation from 49 universities in China.

On April 21, 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) held a meeting and working session with a delegation from 49 universities in China.
 
Attending the working session, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the university; Dr. Pham Hoang Hung - Head of the Cooperation and Development Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Head of the Training Department; Dr. Trinh Van Dinh - Head of the Scientific Research Management Department; and Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Head of the Chinese Studies Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies.
The Chinese delegation included Mr. Liu Xiaolong, Director of Global Business and Market at Beijing Chinese Language Testing International Education Technology Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tang Xiaoyu, representative of Zhejiang University; Mr. Tao Zhiyu, representative of Wuhan University; Mr. Du Dangjun, representative of Lanzhou University; and representatives from 49 other universities in China.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is a popular destination for many Chinese students.
Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared that VNU-USSH is a leading university in Vietnam in training in the field of social sciences and humanities with a history of nearly 80 years, and is a member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi - a university ranked among the top in prestigious international rankings. Over the past period, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has signed 60 memoranda of understanding with prestigious universities of the People's Republic of China in Yunnan, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangdong, etc.

According to the Vice Rector, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) annually welcomes a large number of Chinese students, even during the period affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there are nearly 200 Chinese students studying at VNU-USSH, in departments such as Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Linguistics, Literature, Sociology, and Management Science. In addition, VNU-USSH is also attracting many Chinese students to participate in master's and doctoral programs. Over the past five years, the university has completed the training of 5 Chinese PhD candidates and nearly 100 master's students from Yunnan University, Kunming University of Technology, and Guangxi University of Nationalities.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) has always considered cooperation with Chinese universities as a key strategic direction. VNU-USSH has developed short-term training programs with flexible study schedules and rich content in fields such as Vietnamese language and culture, and organized tours and experiential programs at cultural sites and famous landmarks in Vietnam. These programs are expected to begin enrollment in the summer of 2023, attracting many Chinese students to study there.
Specifically, in May-June 2023, the school will have three working groups to meet with universities in China to sign agreements and expand opportunities for cooperation in training and scientific research.
Dr. Pham Hoang Hung, Head of the Cooperation and Development Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, stated that Chinese students studying at VNU-USSH are provided with the best possible facilities for their studies, including dormitories and medical care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Vietnam National University, Hanoi is developing a university urban area in Hoa Lac, which includes the VNU-USSH campus, to accommodate even more international students, including Chinese students.

Many opportunities for cooperation are opening up between VNU-USSH and universities in China.
According to Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam, Head of the Training Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-USSH offers 103 training programs from bachelor's to master's and doctoral levels, with a training scale of 10,000 students in long-term programs and 5,000 students in short-term programs.
Students and trainees are encouraged to develop their scientific research activities, including many valuable topics about China, focusing on areas such as: China's relations with countries around the world from macro to micro levels, and research on China's development policies and models.
In addition, the school organizes field trips to China, which are enthusiastically received and participated in by students. Before the COVID pandemic, 600-700 students visited and studied in China annually, demonstrating the great demand for learning about the country.

Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is currently a trusted partner of many universities worldwide, including universities in China. In the future, the university hopes that universities in China will provide more study opportunities for VNU-USSH students in China.

This visit by representatives from Chinese universities to VNU-USSH demonstrates their desire for sustainable cooperation with the university in the future.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives from 49 universities in China all highly appreciated the academic capabilities of Vietnamese students at their respective universities. In the future, these universities will develop cooperation programs in research and student and faculty exchange programs with VNU-USSH. One initiative proposed by the university representatives is the establishment of research centers on Vietnam and China within the universities to enhance research capabilities and mutual understanding in the fields of literature, history, geography, and other areas of the two countries.
