VNU-USSH continues to cooperate with META on AI applications in teaching, learning and research

This is the content of the meeting between the leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) and representatives of META Group (Facebook) on March 11, 2025.
At the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, expressed his sincere gratitude for META's practical and effective cooperation and partnership with the university over the years.
The collaborative relationship between the two sides has yielded many achievements, including the successful development of a Digital Competency Framework for students. In May 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities became the first university to issue it.Digital competency framework for students With the goal of helping students acquire the necessary digital skills to live, study, work, and participate in social interactions proactively, positively, and safely in the digital environment, this digital competency framework has been widely used and provided to all organizations and training units as a reference document for developing digital competency programs for specific target groups. In January 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a Circular on the Digital Competency Framework for Learners in the National Education System, with contributions from scientists at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Recently, within the frameworkProject to enhance the capabilities of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) From late 2024 to March 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with Meta Group, successfully organized 5 training courses on Gen AI for lecturers and students, with over 250 lecturers and experts participating, and 16 courses for high school and university students, attracting over 800 learners. The classes were simultaneously conducted online, attracting a large number of viewers and participants.
Mr. Ruici Tio, Program Manager for Safety and Integrity Policy in the Asia Pacific region of Meta Group, highly appreciated the effective cooperation between META and VNU-USSH in the past. During the meeting, the two sides discussed and agreed on several areas of cooperation for the future.
Accordingly, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will preside over the organization of a workshop to gather expert opinions on the issuance of the Competency Framework for Universal Education in March 2025; develop training content on IT knowledge for lecturers and students; develop short-term courses for lecturers and students; integrate training content on Gen AI into the Applied Informatics course of VNU-USSH; publish a guide on AI usage and prepare for transfer and expansion to other universities in the Vietnam National University, Hanoi…
VNU-USSH and META Group have had an effective collaborative relationship on many projects.
Within the framework of cooperation, on the afternoon of March 13, 2025, representatives from functional units of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and representatives from META Group exchanged views and expressed their desire to sign an MOU/MOA with VNU with the following contents: Expanding AI Gen training for lecturers and students at VNU (building on the training already provided to lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Law, and the University of Economics). META wishes to provide in-depth AI courses for engineering and technology students (online training courses on Coursera); provide datasets (Data for Good) to support learning and research; and create opportunities to apply for grants to develop LLama (global and regional grants, highly competitive).
Previously, in September 2024, Meta's Global External Relations Chairman, Nick Clegg, visited Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), where he particularly emphasized the strategic role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in promoting digital capabilities for students. This is part of a long-term cooperation commitment between Meta and VNU to develop the generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) capabilities of students and faculty, contributing to supporting the digital transformation process in higher education.
The collaboration between the two parties has been underway since 2020, with Phase 1 focusing on developing comprehensive digital competencies for the university's students. This includes building a digital competency framework as a basis for training and assessing the necessary digital knowledge and skills for students in the digital age, thereby helping them become global digital citizens.
Building on the success of Phase 1, Meta continues its commitment to Phase 2 with the goal of not only equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills in Gen AI but also helping faculty members develop their academic expertise in this field.
