Attending the training course were lecturers from the Faculty of Linguistics, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language, and Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Chung used to be an English lecturer, but one sentence changed the direction of her career: “Why not sell what you already have?” Since then, she has begun her journey to bring Vietnamese to thousands of students around the world.
MSc. Nguyen Phuong Chung shares how to prepare lectures more effectively and optimally
With nearly 20 years of experience teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language, including 6 years working at Columbia University, MSc. Chung has gained valuable experience and researched new and optimal teaching methods.
During the 2-day training, lecturers from different departments were introduced to different approaches, methods, techniques, and teaching strategies suitable for each group of students.
In addition to traditional methods, effective but less used methods were also introduced, such as: learner-centered, discussion, interactive and content-focused. In particular, lecturers were also given the opportunity to try out new ways of preparing lectures, creating curriculum frameworks, and learning from leading professors in the field of teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language.
MSc. Nguyen Phuong Chung is also working with colleagues to compile a new book, focusing on students, focusing 100% on what students need practically in life. The lectures are done according to the backward design model. This is a lecture preparation technique that has been applied in many places around the world, but is still quite new in Vietnam. The book is expected to be released next September. MSc. Chung personally also wants to send it to Vietnamese language teachers to use and send back his comments and contributions when using this book.
