This was the main point emphasized by scientists at the scientific conference "Research and discussion of some issues on geography, history - politics, socio-economics and culture that need to be unified in the presentation of the Nam Dinh Gazetteer," held on August 15, 2024, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH).
The workshop was attended by scientists involved in the Nam Dinh Gazetteer Project from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, and other universities and research institutes; representatives from the Department of Science and Technology of Nam Dinh province; and leaders from several functional departments of VNU-USSH.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, delivered the opening remarks at the conference.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-USSH, shared that the university always prioritizes investing in human resources for research that is substantive and highly applicable, including local geographical surveys. This is not only a scientific task but also an important political task, a social responsibility of the university, and a matter of professional prestige for VNU-USSH.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that the research and compilation of the Nam Dinh Gazetteer is considered a key scientific task for the university in the coming period. The university will create the best possible conditions for scientists to complete the project on schedule and deliver the most valuable research results.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc - Project leader, chair of the workshop
Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Quang Ngoc - the project leader - stated that the Nam Dinh Gazetteer project is the first gazetteer project in the North to be undertaken. With dedication, responsibility, and a scientific spirit, the scientists have been working diligently on the project's tasks to meet the requirement of completing the gazetteer within 24 months (from May 2023 to April 2025).
The workshop served as a forum for scientists to discuss several issues related to geography, history-politics, socio-economics, and culture that need to be standardized in the presentation and compilation of sections within the volumes, as well as to report on the progress of the Nam Dinh Gazetteer project. Here, scientists put forward several recommendations for adjusting and supplementing research content, as well as coordinating the exploitation of local research materials to ensure the project is completed according to the set schedule and scientific requirements.
Previously, in January 2024, the Project Steering Committee organized a scientific workshop to discuss and agree on the regulations, criteria, and requirements for building local directories according to the new national standards, in order to meet the requirements for connecting and exploiting information in the current digital transformation revolution, including updating local source materials.
Dr. Tran Huy Quang - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Nam Dinh province, attended the workshop.

The workshop attracted the participation and discussion of scientists from many universities and research institutes involved in the Nam Dinh Gazetteer Project.
