Educational goals/program objectives:
The undergraduate journalism program trains graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to work in the field of journalism and media; capable of fulfilling operational requirements in various forms of media in the digital age, in the context of international integration and globalization; and capable of researching and teaching on issues of journalism and media at higher education institutions and research facilities.
After completing the course, students will have the competence to work in press agencies, media organizations, political and social organizations, etc., and will be able to continue their studies at a higher level, accumulating experience to become leaders and experts in the field of journalism and media.

Standards of knowledge and professional competence |
Graduates of this training program possess in-depth theoretical knowledge in their field of study; master technical skills and have practical knowledge to solve complex tasks; accumulate foundational knowledge of basic principles, natural and social laws in their field of study to develop new knowledge and be able to continue studying at a higher level; have management, operational, legal and environmental protection knowledge related to their field of study; and possess specific knowledge and professional competence as follows: - To understand and apply the knowledge and methodology of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; to possess a dialectical materialist worldview and philosophy of life; and to have firm political awareness and class standpoint. - Possess basic foreign language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, equivalent to at least level 3 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam. - Understand and demonstrate one's understanding of the foundations of social sciences and humanities, especially in the fields of political science, psychology, sociology, history, and economics; - Understanding the role of social sciences and humanities in social life, especially in the digital age, integration, and globalization. - Understand and be able to apply the theories and principles of communication, interpersonal communication, and mass media communication to communicate effectively through writing, speech, and other forms; - To understand the fundamental and core issues of law and ethics in journalism and media work; - Understand and analyze the role and strengths of mass media channels in society. Understand the different professional fields and jobs within the media industry; - To understand the operational model of media organizations and the roles and responsibilities of individuals within those organizations; - Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental concepts and theories of mass communication (the role of media in social life, basic functions of communication, principles of journalistic ethics, etc.) in order to become a professional communicator and journalist. - Demonstrate awareness, understanding, and the ability to exercise the rights and responsibilities of journalists in society. Understand and recognize the social, legal, and ethical responsibilities of journalists – socio-political activists; - Understand the requirements for accuracy, fairness, and integrity in media activities and apply these requirements in journalistic work; Possesses the ability to recognize and apply the distinction between reality and subjective opinions; - Understand the roles and relationships between individuals in the media production process; - Demonstrates critical thinking, creativity, and independence in evaluating and assessing news; ability to organize and present information in the form of articles across various media formats (print, radio, television, public relations, etc.); - Master the fundamental knowledge of the elements and principles in designing print media, websites, or building complete radio and television programs. - Through internships and graduation theses, gain a thorough understanding of the organizational model and operational processes of a newspaper newsroom or media agency; be able to proficiently apply learned knowledge and skills to professional practice under the guidance of journalists and media experts; begin to adapt to the high-pressure work environment of a newspaper newsroom; flexibly apply basic communication skills with sources, colleagues, and the editorial board; begin to collaborate with teams/production crews for journalistic programs/works. Journalism graduates are capable of working as reporters and editors at newspapers, magazines, news agencies, radio stations, and television stations; as researchers and lecturers at training and research institutions specializing in journalism and mass media; as functional officers in leadership and management agencies for press information; or in positions requiring a systematic and fundamental understanding of journalistic theory and professional skills. They can work as specialists in media companies, as communications staff, or in public relations (PR) roles. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.
Graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism can pursue Master's degree programs in Journalism, Public Relations, and other related or suitable fields within the system of disciplines currently permitted for training by the Ministry of Education and Training. In some exceptionally outstanding cases, they may be eligible to continue their studies at the doctoral level if they meet the requirements of the training regulations.

2. Guidelines for implementing the training program
- The general knowledge block at VNU Hanoi includes general knowledge blocks by field, by discipline, or by group of disciplines, followed by the knowledge block specific to each discipline. However, some subjects in the discipline knowledge block can be scheduled in the first semesters (e.g., subjects focusing on practical skills) because these subjects are relatively simple and help create career interest for students.
- Regarding Physical Education and National Defense Education: In addition to theoretical content, the practical part can be organized in a concentrated learning format to suit the school's facilities.
Foreign language courses, which belong to the general knowledge block, are counted towards the total credits of the training program, but the evaluation results for these courses are not included in the semester GPA, the overall course GPA, or the cumulative GPA.
- Courses with prerequisites can only be taken after the prerequisites for that course.
For highly practical courses in print journalism, radio, television, and online journalism, classes will be divided into groups (under 30 students per group) to practice using equipment and producing media products at the Center for Journalism and Communication (Building H).
- Professional internship: This can be organized during the summer semester of the second or third year.
- Graduation internship: This can be organized during the summer semester of the third year or during the seventh semester (final year).
- Graduation thesis or elective courses as an alternative to the graduation thesis: Based on the capacity and number of teaching staff within and outside the Faculty, students with good academic performance (ranked from highest to lowest) will be allowed to complete a graduation thesis under the guidance of a lecturer. The remaining students may choose two supplementary courses within the major and supplementary knowledge block (M5, section V.2) to take as an alternative to completing the graduation thesis. Students required to complete a graduation thesis may apply for permission to take an alternative graduation course with the approval of their supervising lecturer.
- Courses are assessed based on students' in-class activities (study attitude, participation in discussions, preparation, etc.) and the results of mid-term and final exams (in the form of multiple-choice questions, essays, written exams, group assignments/media projects, etc.). Scores are graded on a 10-point scale; the School's training department will convert to a different grading system to comply with training regulations.
- Lecturers: The teaching staff consists of full-time faculty members of the Faculty and the University, in combination with invited part-time lecturers (with contracts with the University) and visiting lecturers (with contracts with the Faculty). Part-time lecturers are selected based on the following main criteria: qualifications, practical experience, pedagogical competence, professional ethics, etc.
