During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh introduced the main achievements in training, scientific research, and the main research directions of the University; emphasizing the goal of building a research university and promoting the University's internationalization strategy through the development of courses taught in English and expanding relations with international partners. The Rector expressed his hope that the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam would serve as a bridge between the University and New Zealand universities, and proposed several collaborative activities such as student and faculty exchange, joint research, and joint conferences.
In response, Ms. Wendy Matthews thanked the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for its warm welcome. She discussed with Professor Pham Quang Minh several important issues, including the needs and trends in training and research in social sciences and humanities at the University in particular and in Vietnam in general, the future of university autonomy, and solutions to attract students from various disciplines. She stated that the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam is always ready to support the University in connecting with New Zealand universities, especially in improving language skills and promoting cultural exchange between students from both sides.
Professor Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated Ms. Wendy Matthews' suggestions and pledged that the University would always welcome the presence and contributions of the New Zealand Embassy in academic exchange and collaboration activities. The University's Cooperation and Development Department will be responsible for connecting the two sides.

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Wendy Matthews began her term in Hanoi in early December and was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 13, 2017.
