
In the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject (QS WUR by Subject 2022), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to strengthen its position in key areas, with 6 out of 51 areas ranked. In addition to the 5 areas that continued to be ranked (including 4 out of 5 areas that improved their ranking), VNU also had one new area ranked for the first time: Engineering – Electrical & Electronic.

VNU's subject ranking results (QS WUR by Subject) in 2021 and 2022
In the 6 fields ranked by QS in QS WUR by subject 2022 including: Computer Science and Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics and Manufacturing, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Business and Management Sciences and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, VNU has 5/6 fields in the top 500 in the world - especially 3 fields: Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; and Business and Management Studies are all ranked number 1 in Vietnam.
The QS WUR by subject 2022 rankings are based on five criteria with weights customized to suit each field, including:
+ Academic Reputation
+ Employer Reputation
+ Average citation rate per paper
+ The H-index measures the productivity and impact of scientific publications of the teaching staff.
+ International Research Network
QS ranking criteria emphasize the contribution and impact of a field of study's quality of education on society (through assessments by academics and employers); contributions to scientific research (through citation levels and H-index); and the ability to internationalize scientific research (through international research networks).
From 2022, QS will add rankings according to 5 subject groups. VNU also shows its position in research trends when 3/5 subject groups are ranked: Engineering & Technology ranked 386th, Natural Sciences ranked 401-450th and Social Science & Management ranked 451-500th.

Social Sciences and Management group – ranked in the 451-500 group (59.8 points)
Within the Natural Sciences group, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has two fields ranked first in Vietnam: Mathematics (ranked in the 351-400 group globally) and Physics & Astronomy (ranked in the 451-500 group globally). VNU is also the only higher education institution in Vietnam to be ranked in this group.

Natural Sciences group – ranked in the 401-450 group in the world, first in Vietnam (62.3 points)
The Engineering and Technology field group also shows Vietnam's strength when, in addition to VNU, there are 4 other higher education institutions in Vietnam ranked, including: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University.

As can be seen, the scores for the Employer Reputation criterion in all three fields are above 68/100 points, showing the recognition by businesses and employers of the competence of graduates and the quality of training in these fields in particular and at VNU in general.

Previously, in 2021, Times Higher Education (THE) Magazine announced the THE World University Ranking (WUR) by Subject, in which VNU had the field of Computer Sciences evaluated by THE for the first time and ranked in the 501-600 group in the world, No. 1 in Vietnam; Engineering & Technology in the 401-500 group in the world, No. 1 in Vietnam. THE World University Ranking by Subject is a ranking of universities in 11 fields. The results of this ranking are evaluated based on 5 groups of criteria including the following indicators: Citation, Industry Income, International Outlook, Research and Teaching. |
