Activities on World Intellectual Property Day 2012

On April 21, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the National Office of Intellectual Property jointly organized two events: Student Scientific Conference on Intellectual Property; Student Competition with Intellectual Property. These are activities to implement the Cooperation Agreement in the field of Intellectual Property (IP) between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the National Office of Intellectual Property signed by the Leaders of both sides on August 5, 2010, on the occasion of World IP Day 2012, and at the same time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Office of Intellectual Property (July 29, 1982 - July 29, 2012).The Student Scientific Conference on Intellectual Property took place on the morning of April 21, 2012 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The conference gathered 26 scientific reports by students of Hanoi Law University, Hanoi Foreign Trade University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with the following contents: - General knowledge about intellectual property and intellectual property protection; - Copyright and related rights, collective management of copyright and related rights; - Patents, industrial designs, trademarks, trade names, geographical indications, unfair competition; - Relationships between subjects of intellectual property rights; - Enforcement of intellectual property rights... Results: - First prize went to student Duong Thi Thanh Ha (Hanoi Law University) with the topic Signs that are not protected as trademarks - Current status of intellectual property law in Vietnam and some recommendations. - Second prize went to student Luu Thi Thanh Nga (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) with the topic Comparing the patent application processing procedures of Vietnam and some countries in the world. - Third prize went to student Nguyen Thi Lieu Thu (University of Foreign Trade) with the topic Resolving disputes related to trademarks of Vietnamese enterprises in the context of international economic integration, and the group of students Dinh Thi Kim Hoan and Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) with the topic Inadequacies in handling unfair competition related to industrial property rights in Vietnam. The Student Intellectual Property Contest took place on the evening of April 21, 2012 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with students from Hanoi Law University, Hanoi Foreign Trade University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and University of Commerce participating in the contest. The purpose of the contest is: - To disseminate knowledge about intellectual property among students, on that basis, to expand the dissemination of intellectual property in society. - Encourage students to learn and improve their understanding of IP - an important factor in the knowledge-based and integrated economy. - Create opportunities for exchanges between "future managers" on an equal and friendly playing field. - The contest is also an opportunity for future managers to meet and learn about businesses, to learn more experiences and thereby understand more about work and career choices in the future. The content of the contest includes general knowledge about IP, learning about businesses, handling copyright and industrial property infringement situations.
