On the occasion of the publication of the book "Northern Youth in the War of Resistance Against America for National Salvation (1965-1975)", USSH respectfully reintroduces the Foreword to this book. Youth throughout history have always been the backbone and vanguard force in the building and protection of the nation. In the Ho Chi Minh era, especially during the resistance war against the US, the struggle for national liberation and reunification, the young generation of Vietnam, including the youth of the North, under the leadership, organization, education, and training of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho, excellently fulfilled their historical role, making a great contribution to the great victory of the nation. During the great long struggle, with the glorious victories of the country in the years of resistance against the US, the period from 1965 to 1975 was a decade in which the Vietnamese nation and its youth faced the most arduous and fierce war and also achieved extremely glorious victories. Studying the history of youth in general, and the history of the Party's youth mobilization in particular, during the period from 1965 to 1975, in both the North and the South, is a scientific topic of great significance. Through its research, this book contributes to clarifying the role, characteristics, and contributions of youth, the representative force of the independent will and aspiration for freedom of the Vietnamese nation – a nation with a long history and patriotic tradition. The victory of the resistance war against the US, saving the nation, was the victory of the entire Vietnamese nation, the merit, contribution, and sacrifice of many generations of Vietnamese people, among which the greatest, most consistent, and decisive contribution of the socialist North must be mentioned. “The North poured into the war to save the nation and defend the nation with the full strength of the socialist regime and excellently fulfilled its role as the revolutionary base of the entire country, worthy of being the invincible fortress of socialism.” Our Party and President Ho Chi Minh linked the destiny of the youth with the destiny of the nation under the fierce challenges of the resistance war against the US, saving the nation. With the spirit of "Three Ready," "Three Capable," "Aim straight at the enemy and shoot," and the movements of "Hammer in hand - Gun in hand," "Plow in hand - Gun in hand," "Pen in hand - Gun in hand,"... millions of young men and women, eighteen and twenty years old, enthusiastically took the lead throughout the last decade of the war, a time of hardship and sacrifice, to protect the Fatherland and the rear. They "Cross the Truong Son Mountains to save the country," present on every battlefield fighting the Americans in the South and in friendly countries like Laos and Cambodia, with courage and a spirit of readiness to sacrifice for the Fatherland, and also achieving glorious victories. The war of resistance against the US forged a generation of young people full of indomitable spirit, who did not hesitate to dedicate and sacrifice themselves for the independence and freedom of the nation. This is both a proud achievement and a vivid lesson in mobilizing and uniting young people. It also serves as a historical basis and a source of authentic and vibrant documentation for educating on traditions, cultivating revolutionary qualities, and unleashing the immense potential and ideals of millions of young men and women today, ready to contribute their efforts and intellect to the goal of a prosperous nation and the cause of industrialization, modernization, and international integration of our country. The book "Young People of the North in the War of Resistance Against America for National Salvation (1965 - 1975)" with its multifaceted, interdisciplinary research approach combining historical science, political science, and sociological research... has strived to utilize numerous sources of documents, statistical data, and historical witnesses... to clarify the basic content of Ho Chi Minh's thought; This study examines the views and policies of the Vietnam Labor Party on the role and position of youth, and youth mobilization work in the revolutionary process in general and the cause of fighting against the US and saving the country in particular. It reconstructs a truthful and comprehensive picture of the creative labor, enthusiastic learning, and courageous fighting spirit of North Vietnamese youth during the years 1965-1975. Based on this, the author initially offers general assessments and observations on the characteristics, achievements, and limitations of the Party's youth mobilization in North Vietnam, summarizes some experiences regarding the Party's leadership over youth work, and draws necessary conclusions with practical significance for youth mobilization work in the current period.
