Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasized: Along with the development of the socio-economic landscape, the social work sector has been making important strides to meet the increasingly high demands posed by socio-economic life… Training professional social work staff is essential. First and foremost, this forms the basis for meeting the demand for human resource development in social work; at the same time, it can contribute to supplementing and developing a high-quality professional workforce for other sectors, directly serving other professions such as healthcare, education, social labor, services, as well as serving the socio-economic development needs of Vietnam.
Emphasizing the significance of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities being assigned the task of training PhDs in Social Work, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh stated that with this decision, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities becomes one of the first two institutions in the country authorized to train PhDs in Social Work. The approval of the PhD program in Social Work is extremely important because it provides a foundation for creating a highly qualified workforce in both theory and practice, directly involved in professional community development; contributing to the holistic development of individuals; and laying the groundwork for sustainable socio-economic development.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa, Head of the Sociology Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – the unit implementing the Doctoral program in Social Work – believes that training in Social Work at the doctoral level is a continuation of the master's and bachelor's degree programs, marking a very important qualitative change in social work training in Vietnam; and she commits to fulfilling the training mission well with a high sense of responsibility towards the social work profession.
At the ceremony, representatives from units under the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs highlighted the significance of the doctoral training program in Social Work in the current context; expressing confidence that, as a leading unit in training high-quality human resources in the field of Social Work, the Faculty of Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, will successfully implement this training program, contributing to the growth and development of the Social Work science in Vietnam.
