On behalf of the university leadership, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh expressed his gratitude to the Canadian Embassy, the CEPEW Center, and the faculty and students of the Library and Information Science Department, who have instilled in them hope for a better future, as well as for the university and society as a whole. As a student, what kind of information do you usually look for in university? Have you ever encountered difficulties in finding or accessing information in university? Are the difficulties we face in accessing information in university due to students being passive or for some other reason?... These were the questions raised and discussed in the panel discussion "Are Students Passive in Accessing Information?" which took place immediately after the opening ceremony.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Center for Education Support and Women's Empowerment (CEPEW), is sharing her insights during the seminar.
As someone who has extensively researched the right to access information and actively participated in the drafting of the law on access to information submitted to the National Assembly, approaching it from a rights-based perspective, Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Center for Education and Empowerment of Women (CEPEW), shared a lot of specific information about information and access to information activities.
These points were further elaborated, discussed, and exchanged with specific examples by Mr. Pham Huy Cuong, Deputy Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department. As one of the two units of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities that regularly works with and interacts with students, Mr. Pham Huy Cuong provided practical examples of the department's activities in interacting with and providing information to students.

The right to access information is considered a prerequisite for the implementation of other human rights, aiming to ensure transparency and accountability of the state. Access to information enables all citizens to make informed decisions, such as promoting good governance and combating corruption, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of citizens. The project to enhance understanding and promote youth participation in promoting access to information in Vietnam was implemented by the Center for Education Support and Women's Empowerment (CEPEW) in collaboration with the Faculty of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, from December 2015 to February 2016. Phase 1 included the following activities: a workshop sharing information on the progress of developing the law on access to information in Vietnam; and two training courses on the right to access information for lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. From these training courses, a core group of young people was formed, playing a leading role in implementing the project's activities in Phase 2. Phase 2 of the project includes: two seminars on the right to access information at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; the development of a rights-based information provision model implemented at the Department of Information and Library Science; and a competition to solicit communication ideas on the right to access information. Finally, the project concluded with an information day event, showcasing communication initiatives and holding a panel discussion on access to information, spreading the values of equality in access to information to the community. |
