The men's football team reached the semi-finals of the 2018 Vietnam National University Hanoi Trade Union Football Tournament.

The match was dramatic and exciting, living up to fans' expectations. The VNU team took an early lead with a somewhat fortunate free-kick in the middle of the first half, the ball deflecting off a player from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and going into the net. After the goal, the VNU team adopted a defensive counter-attacking strategy, ceding control of the game to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. After several attempts to threaten the opponent's goal, it wasn't until the middle of the second half that Dao Tuan Anh had a chance to equalize, making the score 1-1. The two teams then engaged in a back-and-forth battle, leading to a penalty shootout. With composure and determination, despite being at a disadvantage, after five rounds of penalties, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team brilliantly won 4-3 to advance to the semi-finals. Their opponent in the semi-finals will be the winner of the combined team 1 and the National Defense and Security Education Center match. The semi-final match for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team will take place at 5:00 PM on November 4th, 2018 (Sunday).

The 2018 Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union Football Tournament featured 17 teams from various Schools, Faculties, Centers, Institutes, and affiliated units within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The organizing committee divided the teams into four groups. Groups A, B, and C each had four teams, while Group D had five. In the group stage, teams played a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Matches were held at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Sports Complex football field on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays each week.

The 2018 Vietnam National University Hanoi Trade Union Football Tournament was organized to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Government's Decree on Vietnam National University Hanoi and its 112th anniversary. In addition, the tournament will contribute to fostering interaction, mutual understanding, and improving the health of staff and union members working at units under Vietnam National University Hanoi.
