In the opening ceremony, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there was the participation of Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University),Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh(Director of the Institute of Policy and Management). Partners and guests included Mr. Craig Chittick (Australian Ambassador to Vietnam), Dr. Campbell Thomson (President of the Australian Research Management Association), Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai (Deputy Director of the Department of Technology Application and Development, Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam).
Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Campbell Thomson said that ARMS attaches great importance to training research managers. Research associations have been pioneering this management work in Southeast Asian countries. This workshop is an activity within the framework of the partnership between Hanoi National University and ARMS.
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh shared: the support and collaboration of partners is very important, especially when Vietnam is still on the path of innovation and integration. USSH is honored to cooperate with a famous organization like ARMS and wishes to become a member of the Association. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh also highly appreciated the contributions of the Faculty of Management Science, Institute of Policy and Management to scientific and technological innovation activities in Vietnam. The Rector expressed his wish to organize this event more often in Vietnam, through which Vietnamese scientists and managers can learn from the experience and knowledge of partners.
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam - Mr. Craig Chittick said: the relationship between the two countries has now been upgraded to a strategic partnership. One of the areas where the two governments are strengthening cooperation is research and innovation. “We are not Vietnam's only partner but we want to be your closest and most enthusiastic friend. And not just at the state level, but also between institutions such as universities, where the highest concentration of intellectual resources is. So the Australian government is very honored to support this partnership,” he said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, in the context of globalization and the industrial revolution, the demand for research cooperation between countries in the region and the world is increasing rapidly. To promote cooperation with developed countries in many different fields, Vietnamese researchers and managers must improve their knowledge and skills to catch up with world standards. Foreign organizations have played a practical role in this innovation process. This workshop was co-organized by VNU and ARMS, with funding from the Australian Embassy. Vietnamese researchers will gain useful experience through cooperation with organizations from Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. From that basis, future research between Australia and Vietnam will be improved, helping to strengthen bilateral relations.
Within the framework of the event, delegates witnessed Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh and Dr. Campbell Thomson signing a cooperation agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Australian Research Management Association.
The workshop took place over two days.21-22/05/2018. The workshop listened to keynote presentations: Dr. Mark Hochman (Australian Research Management Association) presented on “Project funding application process”, “Post-funding project management process”;Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dao Thanh Truong(Head of the Faculty of Management Science, Deputy Director of IPAM) and Dr. Bach Tan Sinh (Institute of Strategy and Policy on Science and Technology) presented on “Vietnam’s Science, Technology and Innovation System”; Prof. Dr. Vu Cao Dam (Chairman of the Research and Training Council, IPAM) presented on “The transition to autonomous Science and Education in Vietnam”.
