At the meeting, Dr. Csicsmann László briefly introduced Corvinus University of Budapest, focusing on the Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations. The Faculty was founded in 1963 and has close relations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several other ministries in Hungary. The main training fields of the Faculty are international relations, political science, sociology, and communication science. The main research directions of the Faculty currently focus on interdisciplinary issues in Europe such as integration, migration, political and economic shifts, corruption, minorities, and international development. The Faculty has affiliated institutes such as the Institute of World Economics; Institute of International Relations; Institute of Geography; Geoeconomics and Sustainable Development. Dr. Csicsmann László expressed his desire to develop cooperation between the Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In response, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh expressed his joy at welcoming the delegation from Corvinus University of Budapest. The Rector also briefly introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and said that the University shares many similarities with the Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations of Corninus University of Budapest. Both universities offer training in majors such as political science, sociology, journalism and communication. Both universities are interested in internationalization, especially strengthening international relations, promoting English-taught programs and international publications. Vietnam and Hungary have both been going through a period of transition and improvement of economic and political institutions. These are solid foundations for the two sides to initiate bilateral cooperation as soon as possible.
Initially, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh proposed signing a bilateral memorandum of understanding; exchanging students and lecturers through 2+2, 3+1 joint programs; co-organizing international conferences on topics of common interest such as EU-ASEAN relations, comparative politics, and migration issues in Europe. Dr. Csicsmann László expressed his agreement with the proposals of Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh and said that Corvinus University of Budapest is ready to welcome Vietnamese students to study, research, and intern in Hungary. He also hopes to send Hungarian lecturers to Vietnam to learn from experience and conduct research projects on political, economic, and cultural issues in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in general.
