November 20th Celebration: Honoring outstanding teachers

The November 20th anniversary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was solemnly held on November 19, 2008. The ceremony was an occasion to honor outstanding teachers of many generations and an occasion for the University to acknowledge the contributions of teachers to the development of the University in recent times. Dr. Pham Quang Hung - Vice President of VNU attended.

In his welcome speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Principal of the School - highly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the school's staff in the cause of building and developing the school into one of the leading units in training social sciences and humanities in the country. Currently, the school has 518 staff, including 376 lecturers, 06 professors, 55 associate professors, 127 doctors and 176 masters; training 17 university majors with more than 5,500 students; 28 graduate majors, 29 doctoral majors with 2,022 graduate students and 168 doctoral students.

Implementing the policy of VNU, the School is the leading unit in implementing the roadmap to convert to credit-based training and conducting training in majors/specializations that reach international standards. This is an opportunity and at the same time a challenge for the School to affirm its role in training and disseminating social science knowledge to serve the country. With the efforts of the collective of teachers and staff in the School, the School has had achievements recognized by a series of awards and noble titles in the past year: Third-class Labor Medal for 06 groups; Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister for 01 group and 04 individuals...

In particular, in 2008, 11 teachers of the School were honored to be awarded the title of People's Teacher, 16 teachers were awarded the title of Excellent Teacher. Up to now, after more than 60 years of construction and development, the School has had 24 People's Teachers and 50 Excellent Teachers. This is an exceptionally outstanding achievement, an invaluable asset and strength that very few universities in Vietnam have.

Honoring outstanding individuals who have made great contributions to the development of the school and the cause of educating the younger generation, the school has awarded 27 teachers who have just received the title of People's Teacher and Excellent Teacher. Among them, there are many teachers who have retired for many years but are still attached to the school in teaching, training and consulting in many fields. 05 other groups and 01 individual who were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister were also awarded on this occasion.
