First Doctor of Social Sciences Day

The first Doctoral Day in Social Sciences took place on November 30, 2008, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This gathering aimed to introduce ongoing research projects to relevant or interested parties, and especially to allow researchers in the social sciences to share ideas, address theoretical and practical challenges, and particularly emphasize the selection of research topics and methodology.

The first Doctoral Day in Social Sciences took place on November 30, 2008, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This gathering aimed to introduce ongoing research projects to relevant or interested parties, and especially to allow researchers in the social sciences to share ideas, address theoretical and practical challenges, and particularly emphasize the selection of research topics and methodology.

The participating units include: the Institute for Research and Development (IRD), the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Agency for Francophone Universities (AUF), the Priority Solidarity Fund for Social Sciences, the French University Center (PUF), and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. They collaborated to organize this event with the aim of joining forces and sharing experiences to promote higher education and research in Vietnam.

The first Doctoral Day in Social Sciences and Humanities had the theme: mobility, migration, and the non-formal field. Delegates heard presentations on “The Non-Formal Field in Vietnam: A Research Problem” (by Mireille Razafindrakoto - IRD); “Non-Formal Occupations in the Red River Delta: A Comparative Analysis Between Urban and Rural Areas from the VHLSS2004 Public Opinion Survey” (by Nguyen Huu Chi – PhD Candidate at the University of Paris 13); “Urbanization of the Peripheries of Ho Chi Minh City and Changes in the Lifestyles of the Population, the Case of Vinh Loc A - Initial Results” (by Truong Hoang Truong – PhD Candidate at the University of Province); “The Art of Writing a Dissertation” (by Edith Jaillaradon – University of Lyon 2 and Dominique Roussillion - University of Toulouse 1); “Digital databases: benefits and uses” (by Vu Do Quynh - AUF).
