On the morning of November 17th, two representatives from Aston University (UK), Dr. Beverly Adab - Deputy Head of the School of Languages and Social Sciences, and Dr. Gina Rippon - Deputy Head of the School of Life and Health Science, visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University, received the delegation.
Both sides introduced information about the activities of their respective universities and initially discussed possibilities for cooperation in the fields of linguistics, social sciences, and psychology. Collaborative activities could include scientific research; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) instruction and exchange of third-year English-speaking students in Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, and Public Policy; teaching general English programs; and pre-master's programs such as TESOL, Applied Linguistics, and Forensic Linguistics.
At the meeting, Associate Professor Nguyen Van Kim highly appreciated the British education system and noted that the two universities share many similarities that are favorable for cooperation, such as strengths in research in social sciences and humanities, and a focus on interdisciplinary and regional studies. He also pointed out that while the university's young faculty members possess strong research and teaching capabilities, their language skills are not yet fully developed to support specialized research. Therefore, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities hopes to receive assistance from Aston University, particularly in improving the foreign language proficiency of its young faculty members.
Both sides agreed to continue research in order to reach a framework agreement as a basis for implementing more specific cooperation activities.
